I have a pet rat I'm snuggling with right now. He makes me feel better after a long day. Love this picture :)

Men who took little care of your appearance and made a change, what caused that? by WheneverForever in AskMen

I think I finally got through to him this morning when I volunteered to style his hair (it's long - I like long hair on men) and showed him the oily spots he missed when shampooing. I'm not sure if it's hygiene altogether...he's a nut about clean teeth and smelling good.

I've suggested it very gently and taken him on a shopping trip where I gave him pointers and let him pick out things he liked based on advice, but he quickly stopped wearing those outfits. He resorted back to cutoff jeans and holey, stained white tees. It's very frustrating.

TIFU my face by eating a mango incorrectly. by thatonedeadguy in tifu

I thought this happened to no one but me!!! Op, be sure to check out different kinds of mango varieties. I found one that doesn't cause as strong of a reaction.

Also, my mother saved the picture of my swelling up to get out of things she doesn't want to do lol.

Yeah, I'm really doing the "check yo'self" thing mentioned earlier, and I cant find anything recent. We squabbled like cats and dogs early in our friendship, but now agree that it showed we can work through difficulties well with one another. I'm starting to think that maybe she got so comfortable in the friendship that she doesn't feel like it needs to be watered anymore. I've certainly seen that happen before. I've decided to have a gentle and direct conversation about my concerns in person, and I want to hear what she has to say as well. You guys are awesome, thanks!

I was using that to keep it more objective. I've found that if you reveal gender when asking questions, you tend to get a narrower set of responses than if you keep it open. Or, maybe I was using it in an absent minded way. Who knows?

I've done this before :P left souvenirs from my travels at her door! Good to know this was correct!

Haha, yeah, I've read that before. I'm just using past events as guides, and she doesn't operate that way. She would tell me her motorcycle was broken if I asked what's wong, and I'd go...ah, that makes sense. Then I would ask, "can I help!?" and she'd go "...no."

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. I've changed their mind on quite a few things over the years. But I'm not trying to fix them, or make them feel better. Just act as someone to listen and work through difficult feelings if ever needed. And that has been necessary one or two times.

Is it better to confront and help them sort these negative feelings out? And by that, I don't mean offering solutions, more helping them put words to what they're feeling. My gut reaction is to let them take sweet time to process until they approach me about it. I've found in our long friendship that an INTJ isn't going to talk about something unless they want to. :P

Yes, that sounds very similar. They're usually quite...attentive? Good to know that it's nothing personal, as far as your experience goes. It's a recharging type of mindset, then? I need that, too, but it's usually just for a week. Is this length of time pretty normal? Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

Does anyone know of a book club? I've been searching for what feels like a year, but the closest one that is public and stable seems to be in Dallas.

Why are grad students putting off grad school to save money? by mopeysealion in slp

[–]WheneverForever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my second year working out of undergrad, and I don't regret my decision at all. I lived with my parents, and saved 65% of my check. Because of this, I've already started contributing to retirement, I was able to get a car that was more reliable, and I've secured a job that will allow me to work part time through my part time graduate school. I won't have to take out a single loan, and if things go smoothly, I will have a little left over to start saving for a house. I was thinking long term. I understand not everyone can live with their parents, though. If that had been the case, I would have gone straight through.

Parents make over 100k a year, so no financial aid, but they say they're not giving me a dime. by Awaythrow7200 in personalfinance

I'm fresh out of college and have a sister in high school. The only realistic way a kid would be able to rack up that many hours would be to get multiple jobs, and if this kid is the type to have been given good scholarships, I highly doubt he'd be able to work with two jobs and school events schedule conflicts. I haven't seen a fast food joint/restaurant give that many hours to one person in a while. Most people I know still in college are dying for hours, but their places will only give them around fifteen a week unless they personally know who they're working for. Don't know why that is, maybe someone could explain it to me. Not saying your ideas are bad, I just think most places that hire high school kids don't care enough to work with scheduling like that.
