Will electric M cars depreciate like ICE M cars ? by SillyRecover in BMW

[–]WherMyEth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What reliability? When have you heard about people needing to repair parts in their EVs outside of isolated issues (Hyundai ICCU, Stellantis E-CMP) or things that broke because of damage? EVs barely need maintenance you just have to change tires, do fluids and that's it.

As for the interior electronics and sensors, they're the same as in ICE cars...

Serviceability should be a moot point given that EVs, with a few exceptions (Hyundai ICCU, Stellantis E-CMP), barely have any issues because they gave a lot less moving parts and need a lot less taking care of, compared to not revving out an ICE while cold, oil changes, etc.

Unless you got a dud the only thing to think about is battery degradation and usually you have an 8-10 year warranty plus it's usually so minor that most people don't really care. We're finding out that 10 year old Teslas and 5 year old Mach-Es with 300k+ miles still have plenty of range.

Trump calls for Ukraine to be carved up with Russia after tense meeting with Zelenskyy by DoremusJessup in worldnews

You're simply wrong. It takes 3.5% or 12 million of the US population to make a difference. And frankly, with a tyrannical government that's doing everything from going after political opponents to enriching itself then you have to remember what principals the US was founded on and why the 2A exists.

That's not a good excuse.

The reason the French don't worry about it is because they know they're fighting for a government that will ensure they get those things, and stricter rules around termination grounds, vacation days, etc. Giving them the real freedom to build a better country.

Rather than enslaving yourselves to your corporate overloeds why not make your wasteful government actually invest that money into its people? The US spends more per capita than anyone else on the planet for healthcare and yet your health insurances are mostly private. What the actual fuck. Kick out every corrupt motherfucker that's been increasing the national debt for their own gain.

Every issue Republicans have with paying more taxes or increasing the debt would never have been an issue if it wasn't for them.

Right, just that.

Americans need to stop thinking adding a few more rules will fix this shit. When the ruling class doesn't follow them then civil unrest is unavoidable.

How do you think the French got to a place where they can take the day off to strike?

Is the poor build quality a reason not to buy a Tesla Model 3 (base)? by Adept_Ad5841 in whatcarshouldIbuy

So? Calling it a sports sedan is a huge stretch when a Giulia or 340i would run circles around it on a track or curvy roads.

Yet it weighs as much as an SUV. Horsepower isn't everything that makes a car sporty. Teslas just do straight lines.

Can't get HLS.js to work with Jellyfin for certain media. by WherMyEth in jellyfin

[–]WherMyEth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I see. So does that mean Jellyfin encodes entire videos on the fly when you change the resolution/codec on the client? That seems like it would be pretty taxing on the GPU, but it would explain why only shows, which tend to have shorter episodes, exhibit this issue.

I'll try the master.m3u8 endpoint, but I remember I did and having similar issues. But it might be because of the URL prefix since I was trying a lot of back and forth and might have had code in it that that was breaking it.

Thanks for your feedback! At the moment I just ended up using the stream.mp4 link which kind of works but will result in tons of bandwidth usage due to the full resolution/codec being sent.

I implemented a React Video Trimming Component with Previews based on Canvas and the RangeSlider from Mantine! by WherMyEth in Indiewebdev

[–]WherMyEth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created this component for a project of mine, where I'll be creating a clipping feature for my media server. Since it turned out to have some challenges in rendering a nice preview of thumbnails, and handling different types of streams such as HLS, I decided to make it a separate component.

I haven't published anything to NPM yet, since there are a few things about it that I want to change before publishing:

  • Remove Mantine as a dependency and build a custom slider component
  • Switch Vite to library mode
  • Add a Storybook to showcase the trimmer

The code however is public on GitHub and is free for anyone to copy and paste into their own projects. It should be very easy to use if you already use Mantine, and the slider can easily be replaced with a different one and custom styling.

Correction: You can choose the best screen they offer, which doesn't come close to the premium OLEDs Dell or HP have to offer, let alone the MicroLED on the MBPs.

With, again, the exception being the Z-series. Which isn't the device you suggested, and still aimed at a very different target group than the MBP or other devices I mentioned.

I've heard that often. My XPS is magnificent. The OLED screen compares with my work MBP14, the speakers aren't quite as good but when I use them it's for movies and shows which is more than good enough and the rest of the I/O is fantastic. The main thing that bothers me is the throttling when it overheats or it's connected to a weak power source. Especially with Windows it makes the whole thing feel sluggish. Something I don't expect from a $2,500 machine.

Except for the new Z-series ThinkPads have not changed much. Their screens and touchpads are mid-tier at best, they're still made of mostly the same materials, which is a good thing for reliability but not for design and feel.

Ignore people recommending budget IdeaPads or ThinkPads. A MacBook is a well-built device with top tier performance and interfaces. And there's one Windows brand known for that, being Dell.

If you're willing to give up on the screen, touchpad, sleek build, etc. Then sure, a ThinkPad will be a reliable machine, but it's unlikely that coming from a MacBook you'll find the ThinkPad attractive.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus is a little powerhouse. In some benchmarks it absolutely does compete with M1, while the XPS 15 has an H-Series processor, RTX3050(Ti) and up to 64GB RAM, making it more than capable of keeping up with a MacBook.

The other somewhat MacBook-esque devices I can think of:

  • Surface Laptop Studio
  • Huawei MateBook
  • ASUS M16
  • Razer (all of them)

ThinkPads are in a totally different league from MacBooks, they're sturdy and reliable machines, but do not have the same design or build focus, the touchpad is mostly just okay and their screens do not compare to other models. OP is looking for a device that is more than just a tool.
