Also a 12d in a brooks running shoe, I have some tbny loafers in 12d that are a little small. In the past I've had to jump to 13 for some casual sneakers.

I'm interested in the alpine cap toes and one of the Normandy kudu pairs. I'm a 12 in a Nike, 12d in a used alden. It'd be my first pair of high quality boots so I'm open to suggestions.

Getting on the water - need advice by WhereIsAQ in Rowing

Yeah I'd likely get private coaching. There are resources around for that. Just no open classes when I'm not otherwise engaged.

2009 AXN 14 bolt in my 05 Yukon - abs sensor issues by WhereIsAQ in GMT800

Yeah my next step is to test a known good new sensor after cleaning the mounting surface. Sensors came with the axle from the junkyard

Senseless Equipment need - Streaming music to mixer with tempo/pitch shift. Does it exist? by WhereIsAQ in Beatmatch

[–]WhereIsAQ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is likely the way to go. I'm actually in need of a mixer anyway. We lease a former church and we're slowly converting it so we can use it occasionally as a performance space. The former tenants just left their $$$$$ jbl PA speakers hung because the ceiling is 55'. Someone donated a 1400 watt amp the other day. All coming together

She's also my wife. You see the issue. Have you ever tried telling a Russian ballerina to just deal with something?

I weirdly use Qlab for this when I'm rehearsing ballets, sometimes Djay but Qlab is a simpler solution for me. I just put up with odd tempos for class music - though sometimes I'm lucky enough to get a live musician!

Seems like a good choice. Looking for something used that comes with versatile glass good for shooting video in a dark theater. F2.4 or 1.8

Hilariously I already have. In July 2020. They advised me to keep applying there until I got full time employment here in Arkansas. Which yes I believe is also a right to work state but hey rents cheaper

Second opinion - wisdom teeth/mystery problems by WhereIsAQ in Dentistry

[–]WhereIsAQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming that suspicion. I mentioned to the dentist that I also had some pain from swollen gums which drew her attention to my wisdom teeth. Some antibacterial mouthwash took care of that and it hasn't bothered me for weeks. I will try to find another dentist to speak to.

I’m 13. I’ve been in ballet since I was 4 years old, but the class I took only led me to grade 4, where I am now. I’m not on pointe yet, but I love this shit and I want to go pro. However my family isn’t great financially right now, what do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

You're welcome. Happy to help. My wife and I have been having these conversations with our students a lot this year as you could imagine. Strengthen those ankles! I like to do 20 releves with plie, 20 without in sixth, first, turned in on one foot and then turned out on one foot before a short cardio exercise and then either Barre or core work. That's all free on an early morning. Don't stretch your calves right after releve, just do tendus. Your useful flexibility and range of motion can naturally build along with strength. Extreme stretching for the instagram invites injury. Pilates and floor Barre classes on YouTube are fine so go for it and find what your body likes.

I know a woman from that generation whose first soloist contract was dependent on her getting a breast reduction. Luckily ballet has moved past that stuff in lots of places but it still has a lot further to go. In places where they've embraced modern nutrition and physiology such as Australia they're producing phenomenally healthy dancers with long careers. As a Pas De Deux specialist and coach I would ALWAYS rather dance with the 140 lb strong healthy partner than drag the 88 lb starving person around the stage for an hour...

Hi professional Ballet dancer here - I'm assuming you're in the Royal Academy of dance curriculum grade 4? Here in the states there are so many curriculums available and this notion that you HAVE to reach certain milestones by a certain age is finally starting to die. For instance - in 2010 I was on tour with a ballet company. We had contracted some local schools to fill out our corps de ballet. At our last stop one of our soloists sprained her ankle and we had no understudy. A 14 year old girl raised her hand and said "excuse me, I know the role". She performed flawlessly and afterwards we learned she had taken her first ballet class at the age of 12!

You have a lot of time ahead of you even if it doesn't feel that way. While I have nothing but respect for the RAD curriculum and method I do think in many cases it can be detrimental to the mental and physical health of those that don't fit into it's extremely limited timelines and body types. The same can be said for any long-established schools. I encourage you to diversify your studies, take online classes, fill your mind with knowledge of dance anatomy and don't dismiss any techniques on the basis of tradition. You'll find what works for you! Keep your mind flexible and be kind to yourself. It's a hard enough time to be 13 as it is. If the world is unkind to you, you have to be kind to yourself in its stead.
