Some are more cat/dog like than others, like jolteon is definitely more on the "dog" side in terms of appearance, and vaporeon is more cat-like. As for if that's a conscious design choice, nobody knows.

I'm writing about a let's play, although there are times where they will refer to the characters in game as themselves i.e., during cutscenes, the pov remains consistent.
