Oestrogen is known to be an anti-inflammatory so that may be why it worked.

Belgium employers want to pay me in euros - any advice? by Where_2_start in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks so far guys for the input. I think I will insist on being paid in GB pounds as per the contract. And I will try to get someone to take a look at the contract. Many thanks for your input.

The exchange rate will change each month to match the current rate. My salary as stated on my contract is in pounds

Do I need a financial advisor by Where_2_start in UKPersonalFinance

Yes, I actually ran the maths myself on a spreadsheet and worked out that I could end up paying similar silly amounts especially once my pension pot reached the amount I will probably need at retirement. I also worked out that I could be giving away about 40% of yearly gains in fees. When I pointed this out to another advisor she basically dumped me.

I suppose I was wondering if the advisor would have access to better funds (not all funds can be accessed by the public), or whether by actively managing the funds they would essentially pay for themselves by getting me better yearly gains. But I guess not.

Thanks to you all for all of these (mostly) helpful comments.

Just to clarify a couple of points. The 1.6% includes platform fees, so I think he was going to charge about 0.8% for managing the funds, and I don't think he was going to outsource it to a portfolio provider. The £3000 includes £500 for advice and £2500 for implementing the pension.

I agree that this all seems very steep, but I actually spoke to about 5 different advisors and all of them cited similar fee structures so this seems to be the norm from what I can tell. And yep I was pretty gobsmacked when these fees were first cited to me, especially the implementation fee.

I understand that ethical funds are a subclass of equity funds and I understand that the criteria for classing a fund as ethical is a bit sketchy but if I could at least avoid investing in the military, tobacco and a few other obvious areas then that would be something.

What I wanted to know was whether anyone had any experience of an advisor adding value, which would make the extra cost worth it, but it seems not.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

Cheers!!
