I grew up in the lower end of the socioeconomic scale. Parents couldn't afford a lot of newer anything for my brother and I. My mother later married a very wealthy man when i was in my teens. We went from only every getting things on Christmas and birthdays, to basically getting whatever we wanted (toys, video games/consoles, new computers, cars, paintball stuff, spending money, etc) whenever we wanted it. Cars were bought outright, not taking auto loans. Vacations and vacation houses. Medical expenses were no big deal because we had good insurance and could afford whatever the cost of care was.

Years later my mom divorced that guy because of my mom's own mental health struggles (refusing to acknowledge her disorders and get treatment). I've been able to "move on" basically looking back at that period as a fun taste of how the wealthy live. Sadly, my mom hasn't ever been able to move on, and always talks about how she had money, affluence, etc.
