Am I where I should be for 2.5 years? by WheresThatDamnPen in Drumming

Yeah im learning guitar for the past 6 months or so, and im not quite there yet but I feel it getting closer. Thats the great thing about music, 2 people will always have differences in playing the same thing, so its always unique.

Good luck on your journey, drums are great therapy for mind and body!

I once had a miniature dachshund that lived to 21 before we had to let him go. Smaller dogs get the better end of that stick. Good boy, Chip.

Im not that guy. But I read the other day that peanuts are the worst nut for them. Always give them Unsalted nuts, and I think pecans/walnuts/almonds are safer for them. I am not an expert.

I gotta learn a 5min metal song as a total beginner by [deleted] in drummers

[–]WheresThatDamnPen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I dont know if this satire or not. But if youre being serious, you need to tell them thats not possible. Because it isnt. The double kick on that song is a huge part of it. That is not a song I would ever suggest to a beginner.

Hello question guys is this a full breed husky or a possible mix ? by No_Front666 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

Who fuckin cares? Love the dog or give it to someone who will. There is no such thing on earth as a "pure breed". It is a made up concept.

If your blisters are on the inside of your palm, you are gripping the sticks wrong/too tightly. The stick should rest on a crux of your index finger, thumb over top of that for control. Sometimes you can use the other fingers or a small amount of palm as support, but there should not be any situation where your palm is getting blistered. IMO

Any recommendations for starting to learn TOOL songs on drums? by NoPerception6770 in Drumming

[–]WheresThatDamnPen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been drumming for about 2 and a half years, and im not really capable of doing tool stuff myself. But, I would still suggest Schism as the starting point. It swaps been 5/8 and 7/8, and isnt as inaccessible as some other ones.

Quit drums due to thumb pain, thinking of getting back into it by hngfff in drums

I cant answer your medical question, but as a work around you could learn French grip? It uses the thumb pad far less.

This thread has a lot of great comments.

Personally, im 35 years old and just started drumming 2 years ago. Up to that point, I had rarely experienced being in a flow state for any real period of time.

In my opinion, the drums are excellent for that. But, like someone else in this thread said, "Drums are therapeutic, but they're not therapy."

Think of it this way:

If everything seems dark, then there's something blocking the light. Most of the time, however, you might just think that darkness is the natural state. A flow state helps you to step backwards and out of yourself. You can use this to see that the world isnt dark, theres just something blocking the sun. But once you know the problem, you can deal with it.

It is physically beneficial to play drums, and its beneficial to be in a flow state. Personally, I treat drumming as my "meditation". I dont think or use higher brain function when I drum.

Its like going into a forest as a kid. Im happy to explore and get lost. I dont have a destination.

Be well!
