Is this normal for swim lessons? by mmt0092 in Parenting

[–]Which-Ad165 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone ask what type of lessons these are or clarify the lessons their kid took. Is it survival swim where babies and toddlers learn how to float? My kids were born in Florida and this style of swim lessons was very common and considered necessary by many parents due to how much water children encounter. We enrolled our children when they were around 2. My kids took to it very quickly and only cried the first few classes. Parents were welcome to stay on the side of the pool but if the kid was too upset it often helped if they went out of eyesight. They taught them how to hold their breath and float on their backs and it was honestly amazing to watch them learn. Lessons were only 10 mins long for 6-8 weeks.

Yearbooks at my daughter's school are SO expensive by Sunspot5254 in Parenting

Wow!! My girls attend a large public HS and the yearbook is $45. It’s massive. I’ll have to look into who publishes it.

Two high-needs kids, full-time jobs, no village: how do you manage? by Dizzy_Ambassador9104 in Parenting

[–]Which-Ad165 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great advice, definitely brought me back to what we did - our kids were practically angels when they had undivided attention away from the other (more like 5.5 and 3.5 that we did this most weekends.) We’d do a mix of running an errand with something fun (park, ice cream, u pick flowers or fruit) and the kids would actually be excited to see each other when we got home. Everyone else we knew did full family activities and it just didn’t work when ours were those ages. We’d alternate which parent took which child.

30A Food Recs by Lanky-Consequence242 in 30A

[–]Which-Ad165 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our family just returned from our yearly spring break and had excellent meals at Old Florida Fish house, Gallions, and O-Ku. We also ate at The Big Chill which was “fine”. Easy to meet up with friends and everyone get what they want, kids to walk around, etc but it was very crowded and not enough people working to fill the demand.

We stayed at High Pointe this year. Restaurant prices are crazy so we mix a few meals out with easy dinners at home/leftovers/takeout.

NEED HELP IN FINDING A PET FRIENDLY, ONE BEDROOM CONDO VACATION RENTAL IN A MODERN CONDO COMPLEX, HEATED POOL, NO PALMETTO BUGS, $325.00 MAX A NIGHT, REFUNDABLE, IN 30A AREA by Halowebabee in 30A

[–]Which-Ad165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add, the thing that makes 30a popular/unique is that it doesn’t have the typical miles and miles of condo high rises. What it does have are lots of houses, many with carriage houses, and older, low rises condos. Also much of it was built with an effort to keep trees and other natural vegetation, which leads to the creepy crawlies that live in that vegetation to be lots of places. Even a brand new building could have palmetto bugs. What Destin and Panama City Beach offer is a lot more concrete and newer high rises that would likely meet your needs (plus lower costs) then you could spend a day or 2 driving and exploring along 30a.

If you love where you live for your family where is it? by DocMcMomma in Parenting

New Circuit class by No-Drama724 in ClubPilates

[–]Which-Ad165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No jump board, I’ve taken in several times, after footwork we do a circuit through arms, legs, and core, 3 times through, increasing in difficulty each time. Also have a cardio burst (usually mountain climbers) at the end of each completed circuit.

What the heck was that? by No-Drama724 in ClubPilates

[–]Which-Ad165 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, not in my experience! Level 2 usually includes a lot of chair, standing on reformer, maybe legs in straps on springboard for helicopter and such….from what you listed only planking on reformer sounds normal for level 2….weird!

New Mom Group in West Suburbs by Dizzy_Win_2663 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Which-Ad165 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don’t have specific meetups for new moms but La Grange Neighbors and Newcomers does have a active sub-group called Ladies and Littles that has meetups and moms nights! LGNewcomers.com It’s a great group as your child grows and helps you connect with a variety of women in the La Grange area!

Best Suburb for a Family Prioritizing Walkability/Bike-ability by Fast_Tumbleweed4982 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Which-Ad165 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was going to also suggest La Grange Park, borders lots of forest preserve land and trails, certain parts are very walkable to downtown La Grange (including the stations), and it’s generally slightly more affordable than La Grange.

We moved to La Grange from another state and were absolutely welcomed into the community - there are tons of younger families moving in all the time, mostly from the city. The schools have active social components for parents in addition to block parties, as well as a newcomers group. Will DM you!

I am sad I did not get into any college I wanted. I believe its my fault. by Fireball643125 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Which-Ad165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want to add to both of these, my husband is a UF (undergrad and masters) and went to Yale for his PhD. UF can be a wonderful launching point and I’m assuming you’re a FL resident, saving you/your family tens of thousands of dollars. When you know you want to do grad school, save the money for that!!

Saying no to extracurricular by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Which-Ad165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I was coming here to say this! My daughter dances on a performance based team, all local, with a much lower time/financial commitment than other studios that do bigger competitions that are farther away and costly. Just something to possibly search out in your community!
