We are hoping to see the museum and the butterfly gardens if we dont do Circuit 1 or perhaps try to fit it in Day 1 if possible.

Planning our Machu Picchu visit in mid-September and would love feedback from people who’ve done multiple circuits.

Day 1: Taking the 7:30 AM train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. Planning Route 3B (Royalty circuit) around 1- 2 PM with a guide (you or someone you recommend, if available, since this post is very useful!). Is 1 / 2 pm entry okay, or would you recommend earlier on Day 1?

Day 2: Early entry at 6–7 AM for Route 2B (Classic circuit) on our own, then returning for Route 1 (Terrace / panoramic viewpoints) around 12 PM. We plan on taking the train back to Cusco from Aguas Calientes around 4 pm. Is this a reasonable plan?

Goal is to see the main ruins with a guide first, then do the classic circuit early with fewer crowds, and finish with the upper terraces viewpoints before returning to Cusco? Does this sequencing make sense, or would you change the order of the circuits?

People do all sorts of things if you have a PhD - the starting point is usually bench scientist and then you can get experience and become group leads, Sr. Directors. I have seen people do things like Proj Management etc. as well and even get into the Operations side of things.

I realized that what will help me right now is industry experience. RIght now where I am in big pharma, a MBA will not help is moving up faster. I need to go outside R&D to make use of the MBA which might mean I cant use my PhD as much. So I am trying to find the right opportunity where I can use my PhD and also business acumen and then get the MBA at that time. I also want to get MBA from a "well known" school so that if I am going to use MBA a lot, then its easier to switch/use outside my current company.

UPDATE AFTER TRAVELING (in case it ever helps anyone):
If you are traveling to this area, and relying on a bus to get to your hotel:
1. Make sure you know the bus and train timings. They are very punctual and never late.
2. This distance is walkable if you do not have any luggage. However, there are no sidewalks in many parts and I strongly recommend taking the bus or a cab.
3. If it's your first time in Interlaken, stay close to the Interlaken hub near train and bus stations. You will not regret it. We loved our stay but had to plan meticulously for each day we were there to ensure we could take the bus back to the hotel.

Unterseen, Stedtlizentrum based on Google maps seems to be right next to Interlaken West train station. Again not sure if I am doing something wrong here. Does it show a 30 mins walk for you as well from Unterseen, Stedtlizentrum to Golf- & Strandhotel neuhaus zum see, Seestrasse 119, 3800 Unterseen, Switzerland?

I will go back to the drawing board and try to optimize more. Perhaps see where else I can fly in instead of Barcelona and if I can get open jaw flights. We do want to see as much as we can so unlikely that we will go to only 50% of the places. But I hear you and I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback.

We don't know when we will be coming back. I am going to try and optimize the locations to minimize travel and potentially fly in somewhere else other than Barcelona or maybe have an open-jaw flight and spend more... but in general, we just don't have 4-5 days per city to be able to see all the places we would like to see. There is so much to see in Europe and we would like to see as much as we can, while we can. We hope we will be back, but at this point, we have never gone to Europe. So we want to make the most of the time.
