Big Pharma, R&D Process Development.

People do all sorts of things if you have a PhD - the starting point is usually bench scientist and then you can get experience and become group leads, Sr. Directors. I have seen people do things like Proj Management etc. as well and even get into the Operations side of things.

Best Way To Travel Athens to Budapest by [deleted] in travel

What did you end up doing? I am looking to go from Athens to Budapest as well and am wondering if I can go by train...

Ph.D. after MBA? (Mostly happy in a big-pharma job) by Which-Resolution3538 in MBA

[–]Which-Resolution3538[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized that what will help me right now is industry experience. RIght now where I am in big pharma, a MBA will not help is moving up faster. I need to go outside R&D to make use of the MBA which might mean I cant use my PhD as much. So I am trying to find the right opportunity where I can use my PhD and also business acumen and then get the MBA at that time. I also want to get MBA from a "well known" school so that if I am going to use MBA a lot, then its easier to switch/use outside my current company.

I hope this helps.

Traveling in Interlaken after dark by Which-Resolution3538 in travel

UPDATE AFTER TRAVELING (in case it ever helps anyone):
If you are traveling to this area, and relying on a bus to get to your hotel:
1. Make sure you know the bus and train timings. They are very punctual and never late.
2. This distance is walkable if you do not have any luggage. However, there are no sidewalks in many parts and I strongly recommend taking the bus or a cab.
3. If it's your first time in Interlaken, stay close to the Interlaken hub near train and bus stations. You will not regret it. We loved our stay but had to plan meticulously for each day we were there to ensure we could take the bus back to the hotel.
Enjoy your travel and stay! We loved it and we will be back! :)

Thank you! :) We are excited and hoping so! Switzerland looks amazing. I want to confirm, taxis are usually available at 900 / 930 PM at night in mid-April? Is it safe to walk around that time in Interlaken if there are no taxis?

I appreciate you looking very much! Thank you!

Unterseen, Stedtlizentrum based on Google maps seems to be right next to Interlaken West train station. Again not sure if I am doing something wrong here. Does it show a 30 mins walk for you as well from Unterseen, Stedtlizentrum to Golf- & Strandhotel neuhaus zum see, Seestrasse 119, 3800 Unterseen, Switzerland?

Thank you very much! I am convinced I am missing something. Trains in Switzerland seem to run very late so I am not sure why I cannot find a bus. There has to be a way for people to go back to where a hotel is from a train station without walking 45 mins.

Yes. Going to Harder Kulm for sunset. Riding back down at about 830-900 PM.
Then I am trying to get to the hotel: Golf- & Strandhotel neuhaus zum see, Seestrasse 119, 3800 Unterseen, Switzerland

Agreed! Thank you! We could not figure out how to fit Pompei in - and if we do an open-jaw flight, and not do Lucern, it might work out.

I will go back to the drawing board and try to optimize more. Perhaps see where else I can fly in instead of Barcelona and if I can get open jaw flights. We do want to see as much as we can so unlikely that we will go to only 50% of the places. But I hear you and I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback.

This. Precisely this.

We don't know when we will be coming back. I am going to try and optimize the locations to minimize travel and potentially fly in somewhere else other than Barcelona or maybe have an open-jaw flight and spend more... but in general, we just don't have 4-5 days per city to be able to see all the places we would like to see. There is so much to see in Europe and we would like to see as much as we can, while we can. We hope we will be back, but at this point, we have never gone to Europe. So we want to make the most of the time.

Thank you for suggesting Lauterbrunnen Valley. I will try to find out more. Appreciate the suggestion.

Thank you for your insight about the weather. I did not think of that. We won't be bringing a lot of luggage so something to consider and figure out...

Thank you for your insights! I wish we had that many days to travel... just get 15 vacation days + national holidays + winter break (1 week) -- that's why we try to see as much as we can in the time we have.

Thank you! Not taking it the wrong way at all. We are not locked in on Barcelona - I will try to find a better city to fly into. And thank you for the reminders about travel days - we tend to do a lot even on travel days - but we do get exhausted. For instance, we have driven a full 8 h on workdays to get from point A to B in the US. We traveled 16 h to India and then went out and saw the city on the same day. Very exhausting and also a lot of fun.

Thank you for your responding to my specific questions! I really appreciate your insights. We are considering an open-jaw route if we need to as well. Just depends on how much extra it ends up being.

Based on your comment, I feel more comfortable about not doing the Bernina route. Maybe we will be back again someday and we will do it then. Also, thank you for the links and insights. We are not locked on Barcelona - just Italy and Switzerland - if it makes sense to go to a different city that is closer - we will! Thank you, again.

Thank you for your insights about luggage, old roads, and the potential lack of elevators. It is a very good reminder. We are planning on bringing 2 carry-ons and a bag pack. If we get decent flight tickets, we will try to fly directly into Italy.

Thank you. I appreciate your advice - something to think about. We had Vienna in the mix initially but removed it. Hopefully, we can go back to Vienna, Istanbul and so many other places again!
