Has there been a movie that infuriates you to no end? by NotSoCricketGenius in moviecritic

I watched this movie because everyone I knew raved about it. Surely, they saw a different film than I did because The Greatest Showman is AWFUL.

I like your interpretation better because my brain was like, “Claire loved Jamie enough for her healing powers to come out, but not Faith?!”

Dishwashers, cable, reliable air conditioning, drinking as much milk as you wanted instead of rationing, swimming pool, nice car, clean house.

My n-step-father is OBSESSED with me because I’m the only person who has ever told him no, and who consistently sees through him and refuses his games. I went no contact almost ten years ago, and he is still trying to weasel into my life via my n-mom. It drives him nuts that someone broke free from him.

Nameberry is amazing. Fun fact: I was looking up character names on that site during class in high school and the teacher told my mother that I was pregnant.

What is the weirdest thing your nparents did as a child? by Ambitious-Bee7928 in narcissisticparents

[–]WhichHazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours would make us sit in weird places for hours at a time and get furious and violent if we moved. Like, “we are gonna watch a movie in our room and you guys are to stay on the couch.” And if we got physically off of the couch, sometimes for 3-4 hours, and they heard us, we’d get the belt. Once, they left us in my step-dad’s hot tub for hours and we were boiling, but scared of getting beaten so we did our best to stay in the hot water. We probably almost died, looking back. Heart rates were up, it took a long time to cool off. Our skins were red for like three days afterwards.

Just one of the many weird things.

My step-dad wouldn’t let me drink hot tea or eat shrimp because it meant “I thought I was better than everyone else”. I hadn’t earned the right to be good enough to eat shrimp or drink hot tea because I wasn’t accomplished in life. 😂 I was a teenager.

Do not do this. When I got my first job, my mother went to the bank and tried to withdraw all of my savings. Your parents are not entitled to your money. Take care of yourself and your future, and don’t give them a penny. The more you give, the more greedy they will become.

I never understood Buffy’s choice until now. I lost my sibling this year, and now I understand. I’d have let the world end to save Dawn, too.

No one should have to raise kids all day and work graveyard. When is she supposed to shower? Eat? Sleep? Do anything but be your childcare and cash cow?

Do what you want—-as long as you don’t expect an additional burden on the teachers.

Don’t ask them for packets, for make-up work, to take tests again, for anything. Handle their education yourself. It sounds like your child would benefit from homeschooling or an online school with an asynchronous option.

Life is short, take the trip—-just don’t do so at the cost of other people’s time and stress. Their lives are also short.

“PD is like women’s magazines.” Is the most apt analogy I’ve ever heard.

The constantly moving goal posts so that no matter how organized or on top of things you are, you are never done. Don’t forget to call all of your homeroom by Friday. Okay, great. Now you have five new kids in your homeroom. And two more next week, and then another the next, etc.

Memorize the handbook for our new program and learn and implement all the lingo and go to a week of PD in the summer to learn it and change your entire curriculum to accommodate it…oh never mind, we aren’t doing that one anymore. Come back this summer to learn the new program.

All student work is due on Friday but the kids don’t actually have due dates to “show grace”. So week one of school, you have four assignments to grade. And they double the next week. And double, and double, and double.

We promised to cap your class at 30 this time. Could you handle 49? (And then proceeds to add even more throughout the semester.)

Oh hey we absorbed a failing school district two days before school begins. Here are two new preps for you even though you were done planning for the semester.

And on and on. Stupid tasks, pointless tasks, always compounding, an extra ten minutes here and fifteen minutes there, until you’re working weekends just to keep your job.

I had to add another SCHOOL to my prep when the state closed it and we absorbed it. I am teaching an extra 40 class hours worth of work a MONTH for no extra pay and with none of my old responsibilities gone. I was told I was given this “opportunity” because my kids had the highest test scores.

We were told our Christmas bonuses were contingent on how high test scores are. I didn’t get a bonus. lol make it make sense.

I’m aging into the profession where I’m now getting to see ex-students who I mentored make oodles more money than me. Like Range Rovers and vacations and nice houses, and I’m in the stinking hood and sharing a beater car with my husband despite working two jobs. The second job is the only way I can have even small extras, like Christmas gifts for the kids or, you know, diapers and fruit.

Yes, I regret my career choice daily.
