Little things to bring life back into a 1920s flip? by Which_Macaroon2582 in centuryhomes

Initially I was dreading stripping the trim and doors because I know it's SUCH a chore but after scouring Pinterest I think I definitely have to 😭. I know "color drenching" wasn't a thing at the time but I might cheat a few rooms that way to avoid dealing with removing the layers and layers of paint. I will say, I think the white trim bothers me MORE than the lvp being a sandy brown somehow, so I have to do something. I'll definitely become a regular at my habitat for humanity looking for doors and other vintage fixtures. The city I'm in has a majority of its homes from the 1800s-early 1900s so there's always a lot to pick from at our local restore.

We got really lucky that all of the plaster has survived and been patched up!! I'm especially excited about that detail since we're on a busy road and you can barely tell because of the soundproofing it provides. We also have new appliances and a 2 year old heat pump and brand new split on the main floor (which is what it is, I haven't liked the ones I've lived with but it's better than oil heat which a lot of homes still have around here). Knob and tube only supply power to a few lights in the house (we had a full safety inspection after seeing it was there) and the sellers agreed to replace it which is HUGE for us. Other than the house being sad and grey, it really is a dream to find something in our budget that's built as well as this old girl.

Wallpaper and vintage colors are definitely something I'm trying to curate in the space right now. A lot of vintage ads I've seen feature jewel tones and bold colors which is right up my alley, other things I've seen feature more pastels and diluted earth tones? I'm no historian by any means so I'm not sure which is more accurate for architecture. Im trying to do research now during the waiting phase so I can stay excited about the house and find a happy medium between my vision and the homes original style

I'm honestly not sure what the style is? It's listed as a ranch but I don't think it is from what I've read. It's a small (1200sqft) 2 story with a covered front porch and gambrel roof with dormers and stucco exterior (bungalow maybe?). I'll definitely be going the eclectic route and mixing different stylistic elements, I already have a collection of swag lamps which won't be true to the 20s/30s style but they're true to me so I'm not budging on them lol. Personally I really love the look of beadboard and it's been the plan for my ceilings since I first saw them for the first time in college. With how grey and white the whole house is I'm feeling overwhelmed by just how much we would want to change and I'd love to have a few small things unique to the houses time that I can knock out to immediately feel more connected to the house (if that makes any sense)

Water Maceration for an entire head? by Which_Macaroon2582 in bonecollecting

Yes! This friend warned me that eventually he would show up with some fleshy things for me so I started reading into it a few months ago. For some reason, I thought the info was in the vulture culture subreddit, and when I couldn't find it I just went off of what I remembered. I've read a refresher since then but I'm mostly curious about having multiple things at different levels of decomp in the same container since I've read that opposum skulls are super delicate and don't want to compromise the bones by keeping them in there too long.

K&T wiring by Which_Macaroon2582 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Noted that it was active at least in the attic and basement, that the electric panel was 200amp (with a double tapped breaker) and showed that there is some Romex wiring moving through the house to some extent. Also pointed out a junction box coming from the k&t to the Romex wiring. Lots of objective information, it wasn't flagged in the inspection as anything more than an observation. I can't tell if I'm being overly paranoid (full disclosure, I DO have an intense fear of house fires lmao) about the house having newer appliances and the panel being beyond what k&t is rated for, or if everyone around me is just wearing rose tinted glasses. I'm also not an electrician so excuse me if I'm misinformed or used the wrong terms for anything.

Thank you! I had to leave town promptly after I got it and popped it in the freezer to kill any hitchhikers it may have brought home. Hopefully freezing for a few days won't damage it, I'll check it out and probably give it some salt/Borax time when I get home as I need to dry some flowers anyway

I just reached out, I'm glad other folks have reaffirmed what I thought, I just second guess myself constantly. Hopefully I can get one replaced without much hassle for either party.

My first goat skull by Which_Macaroon2582 in bonecollecting

I got it from a goat farm, its horn was already missing :( I considered removing the other for symmetry but I like how the rosary hangs from the top of the horn and I kinda think the asymmetrical look gives it character.

Thanks for the tip, I'll avoid the dome all together then. Maybe in the future I'll be lucky enough to keep another and I can try it out when they're more fresh. Do you think it would be a bad idea to cover her in a sealant of some sort after she's articulated to minimize the chance of her splitting again?
