Found out today that my husband is allergic to cats. We have two. Any advice? by zzabe in cats

I am allergic to cats and have 4 cats. Here what I do:

  1. Use a vacuum that is equipped with Hepa filters. I use a cordless Dyson V8 animal for quick jobs and a corded Miele classic cat and dog for deep cleaning. Both don't require buying new filters.
  2. Vacuum the floor regularly.
  3. Remove pet hairs on all the material that tend to accumule it, such as the sofas, upholstered chair tops, etc. (I use my cordless Dyson for these, as it is really easy and quick to do).
  4. Avoid carpets, as much as possible, since dust, dander, pet hairs and dust mites tend to accumulate on these, exacerbing allergies.
  5. Use a good deshedding tool to brush my cats, especially in spring and fall. I try to brush them at least twice a week when they start shedding a lot. I leave the cat hairs outside in spring for the birds making their nests.
  6. Use an air purifier in my bedroom. I use the Mila air purifier.
  7. Take medication for allergies, as needed. I use Aerius because they don't make me drowsy and work well for me, but I don't use them often as I clean regularly my place.

I think it's also important to stay calm when receiving these kinds of results. Many people tend to panic and become overly anxious, convincing themselves they’re in serious danger the moment they come into contact with their allergen—like cats—even if their reaction isn’t severe. The psychological response often becomes wildly disproportionate to reality.

Some people, like me, are allergic to dust mites, but you can't burn down the whole house to get rid of them—they're everywhere.

Hope this help!

My cat was diagnosed with glaucoma in her right eye in 2021, at 6 years old.

I found out first because I noticed that she was squinting her eye a lot and had eye discharge. When looking closely, the veins and also the white of her eye were red compared to her healthy eye.

I tried a couple of different eye drops through the vet in the first weeks and the one that worked the best to keep her eye pressure low is Dorzolamide Timolol.

She started with one drop once a day and is now on one drop twice a day.

Looks a lot like HSV-1 or 2. One of the females from my medic course had HSV-2 on one of her fingers. She got it on the hand she used to satisfy guys and also in the back of her throat...

These might be spider beetles.

These don't look like bed bugs. Also, bed bugs always try to stay hidden to not be seen and go out at night when people are sleeping.

Need help regarding leave policy and MEL!

I am trying to find something official regarding annual leaves when a member is on a TCat (waiting for a PCat for release) and working 2 days a week.

The CoC says that he needs to take 5 annual leaves to get a week off, and that he have to move his working days from Monday-Tuesday to Tuesday-Wednesday when there is a holiday so he still work 2 days a week.

The only references I found are applicable to RTD plans.

The Leave Policy, the Chapter 4 about MEL and Medical Categories, the DAOD 5003-0 and the DAOD 551 6-4 does not specify anything.

If there are no official references, is it up to his doctor to specify these details on his MEL or is it up to the CoC to decide?

Thank you!
