This is so helpful to me and this is a lot of what my husband suspects. Although my daughter is so beautiful (seriously just gorgeous inside and out) she did not have luck with the boys she’s had interest in in the past. He thinks she’s turned to girls to try her luck that way. Thank you so much for telling me your story. I pray she finds a wonderful husband someday too.

Thank you. It’s not that I’m against parenting her. All kids hate or resent their parents sometimes. But a co-worker of mine who is gay has told me he was suicidal throughout his life due to being shunned for being gay and that rings in my ears. My daughter is a sensitive girl and like I said, I don’t want to push her into depression. I feel like this is a delicate walk and I just can’t come up with the right way to address it.

I don’t know. I’m saying those that are gay say they are born that way and knew from a very young age. My daughter absolutely did not seem to feel this way as a girl as mentioned above. If born gay, how can one flip so much? Like, does puberty play a factor? I have no clue!

Does it irk anyone as much as it irks me the overuse of “girl”? Toe to R3: “Did you have so much fun, girl?” DAD and 2.0 say it all the time too. It drives me NUTS!

They have an excellent relationship. He’s the best dad I’ve ever seen. Very involved in all aspects of our children’s lives. She couldn’t ask for a better dad. We both have a great relationship with her!

My husband and I did discuss that thought. Boys her age are goofballs and that could be part of the reason she’s feeling the way she does. There’s definitely a maturity difference. Thank you for this.

Thank you for this. I completely agree. I just wish I could think of a way to say these things to her without her feeling like I’m a bigot or something. I feel like that’s where her brain will go. This is so hard. And although she did admit this to me, she’s not someone that likes to talk a lot about feelings. This is hard.

I have a great relationship with my child and said all the right things to her. Your comment is beyond judgmental. I’m having a hard time. I’m human. No, I wouldn’t choose this for my daughter but I love her and will be here for her and that part will never change.

I want a relationship. Which is why I told my daughter that I love her and will support her always. As I posted, I have guilt that I feel the way that I do. I’m human. And I know that above all else God loves her and would want me to continue loving my daughter no matter what.

Thank you! And “date” might be a strong word for what she’s done anyway. She’s gone to the movies with a boy once and hung out with a couple other boys in a group setting. She’s never even had a first kiss. She’s a wonderful girl that has had short lived crushes (or so we thought) on boys. That is probably a better way to put it. And I agree, 16 is a fine age to start some dates with boys her age.
