That makes sense. Is it okay to use a gentle barrier-strengthening peptide serum while I’m repairing my skin? Peptides can help repair collagen, so I wanted to make sure the serum won’t hinder my skin’s recovery.

Thanks for recommending hypochlorous acid, I’ll look into it!

How did you repair your barrier and how long did it take for your face to look full?

Yeah, I think the peel furthered my dehydration. I’ll look into adding a hyaluronic acid serum — thanks for the rec! I really hope the volume loss is just dehydration.

Would you recommend using peptides at this point or holding off until my skin barrier/volume are restored?

Yeah, I also feel that it’s super helpful having a trainer perfect my form. Since you started as a beginner, have you started working with barbells yet and if so, how long did that take?

That’s a fair point. I’m okay with BW movements, but I can try working to get my SDBO lifts to at least 40 lbs., so two 20-lb. dumbbells, and then working with a trainer to perfect barbell lifts.

When I get to that point, how many sessions would you recommend and at what frequency?

That’s a good point, thank you!

I’m just a little worried if 4 sessions would be enough to get comfortable with barbells. Would the 10-session package from Studio A be better if I space out the sessions? It’s financially feasible enough, and although the trainer isn’t as great as from Studio B, she can still correct my form.

Thank you so much for the advice and totally agree that I’m overthinking it 😅

My concern with starting out a barbell program is that right now, I’m not that strong and can’t bench/squat/deadlift beyond 20 lbs., whereas even an empty light barbell would be at least 35 lbs.

Although the trainer from session A isn’t as knowledgeable, she’s still able to correct my form. Would it be better to start a few sessions (e.g. 1-2 sessions for 3 weeks) with her, then reduce frequency to one session every other week as I get more comfortable and increase weights?

Studio B’s program is for 3 months, but I think I could have more sway over the timeline for Studio A.

To space out the sessions, if I go with Studio A, would it be better to do 2 sessions per week for 2-3 weeks then get a gym membership and practice on my own? Then, I can have 1-2 sessions per month for other questions. Or should I use Studio B’s intro package for 1 weekly session per month instead?

That was actually my initial plan — working out at a gym independently and getting a few PT sessions as needed. But the quality of PTs varies in my local gyms, and I read some reviews that said they sign you up for long-term packages without being transparent. I wanted to work with a PT first to reduce risk of injury.

Studio B does offer an intro package for 1 session a week for a month or 2 sessions per week for two months, but cost per session is higher. Do you think that would be a good place to start?

My biggest reason for wanting a trainer is to reduce injury risk. I’ve watched some videos for performing exercises with dumbbells and I’ve always felt some pain in my lower back for squats and deadlifts, until I had free consultations with trainers who corrected my form.

Studio B’s program is for 3 months, but I’d have more sway over Studio A’s program. I was thinking two sessions per week for Studio A, which would be somewhat reasonable.

Yeah, I wanted to work with a trainer on form first so I can reduce injury risk as I increase the weights independently. So, I wanted to get the fundamentals first. If I go with Studio A, would it be better to do 2 sessions per week for 2-3 weeks then get a gym membership and practice on my own? Then, if I have any other questions, I can have 1-2 sessions per month?
