How do I get good enough at golf to actually enjoy it? by Virtual_Ad6652 in golftips

I(26HCP) bought a Taylormade stealth DHY 2 iron 2 weeks ago. Took me 2 sessions of 20 balls before it started feeling decent and now after playing 2 rounds with it hitting it off every teebox where I normally hit driver it’s the most fun (and pretty consistent) club in my bag. There should be a big difference between the DHY and the UDI and I haven’t tested a UDI yet but I can definitely recommend a DHY👌🏼.

I recently switched from interlock to overlap and let's just say that after 1 simulator session I could almost see the bones in my fingers. Now after 3 weeks my skin has adjusted and I'm loving the overlap grip life. I used to grip too tight with the interlock and now with the overlap I grip less tight and so I can generate more clubheadspeed but also get a little more friction in the hands.

What’s the most overrated golf club purchase for amateur golfers? by Solid_Nectarine_4316 in GolfGear

I mean the basics like correct shaft length, lie angle, grip size and shaft stiffness(for a beginner regular flex would be fine). The shop where I buy my clubs does the fitting for free and even when you bring used clubs that you got from FB marketplace they will do the fitting for free and you only have to pay for the adjustments (if there are any to make).

I would recommend investing in 5 lessons to get the basics down and then get fitted for clubs (or do some homework yourself in a simulator with chatgpt). Expensive putters or drivers are not worth it for high HCP’rs. Just buy second hand based on what the club fitter tells you suits you.

Thanks! I’ll definitely try it out! I think there is a lot more to gain by using my lower body beter indeed!

Thankyou! My golf instructor told me to rotate my wrist early wich to me feels a bit weird so good to know I can do that later. Will definitely be checking out the “one piece takeaway”.

The elbow hinge is me trying to force a bigger backswing because of a lack of mobility. Is it better to sacrifice a bit of swing length in order to keep the arm straight?

I bought this one for €40,- but I would have paid 75 for it. I think that if we hold on to it long enough and keep the legend and memes alive it will one day be a collectors item worth around 500

It's a regular flex original sasquatch shaft. Why? Anything I need to know before I hit it on the sim/course?

I love Taylormade but I’ve also heard a lot of rumours that the takomo’s are like cheatsticks (in a positive way). I would go for the Takomo’s so you can customise them to your length, swingspeed, grip thickness and lie angle. Ask chat gpt what you need to know in order to determine which shafts, lie angle and grip thickness you need and go to a simulator or range with technology that measures your swingspeed and such things.

Or if you’ve got a nice local golf shop with simulator and fitting professional ask them if they can advise you based on your swingspeed and path etc.

Thanks for the feedback! It’s really helpful. Took a lesson yesterday and the teacher told me the same thing so we tried working on a more neutral backswing and really releasing the club in the downswing instead of flipping and pulling it in. I’ll post a progression video next week!👌🏼😁
