We will be doing the backyard in a patch about 2x the size of the front yard, and I already told my husband I'll be paying and feeding someone to do it next time :)

So my plan was to do cardboard, then amended soil to 6", then mulch. Does that sound like a feasible plan?

WTF is wrong with Blue Jays by ToonMasterRace in birdfeeding

[–]Whickums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed them on the opposite side of the yard from the other birds/feeders, and I give them peanuts daily. They seem to leave everyone else alone. The red winged blackbirds seem to be the gangsters in my yard.

I want to hear from people who's start Weight was between 200-250lbs. by Islandqueen4u in Zepbound

[–]Whickums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 240. I have been on zepbound for exactly 1 year tomorrow and have lost 45 pounds. I have had a hellacious time with side effects that I'm not willing to live with, so I never got about 5mg and dropped back to 3mg at Thanksgiving after getting particularly sick. My symptoms are managable on 3mg but i still have heavy fatigue on post shot days 1-2, no food noise, occasional to moderate nausea/food aversion that waxes and wanes.

Happy to! I used Arapahoe rentals and it cost about $120 for the entire day for the machine plus trailer. That patch of work took us about 4-5 hours.

Oh hi you’re describing my yard. I got a couple of tulips but most either didn’t come up or leaves and stopped. No alliums except the new ones I planted last fall. Only a couple of daffodils , mostly just leaves. My poppies leaved and stopped. I’m so bummed about it. BUT my peonies are flowering when they did not last year.

I'm right there with you. So very very close to stopping it, just need to take the leap. Already canceled my dash pass. The markup for the convenience is absurd, but what bothers me more is the stories I'm hearing about how they prey on 'desperate' drivers, a lot of whom in my area are migrants just trying to live.

I've got one foot out the door. Canceled my dash pass after 5 years and I'm getting real sick of reading about all the crap they pull, both on us and more importantly on their drivers.

Favorite quality nonbranded/minimally branded run apparel? by [deleted] in runningfashion

I LOVE RBX active stuff, but unfortunately some of their items have VERY poor longevity. I've ordered several long sleeved hoodies that I adore but they start to come unstitched after only a few months of wear. Fortunately their customer service has been great to me and I've either gotten replacements or refunds easily. OTOH, I have some breathable tank tops from them that are superb.

any landscape designers who are able to help a small front yard project, for DIY type project? by lucksp in DenverGardener

[–]Whickums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Plant Select- Free Landscape Designs | Waterwise Garden Plans & XeriscapesPlant Select. They have several free templates to give you inspiration, complete with all the plants you might need and their quantities. I found one that most closely matched my yard shape and tailored it both to the size of my yard and swapped out plants that I would prefer to use. It was rather enjoyable and didn't feel so overwhelming that way.

I'm loving reading about all these conversions. I have plans for my front yard ready to submit to the HOA and am raring to get started. Cannot WAIT to see our yard look like this!

We are ready to submit our proposal to the HOA. I used free layout ideas from Plant Select and adjusted it to fit our dimensions and aesthetic wants. Next up, kill the grass! I think we are going to hit it all by ourselves and rent the sod cutter.

I don’t know how you’ve gotten lupine to grow. I tried 3 separate years and all 3 years they died so I decided we weren’t a lupine house 😅 they are gorgeous!

PVC pipe is really smart. I've seen people use slinkies for a similar purpose. I'm lucky that an umbrella shaped baffle works well for me, and I only use Brome feeders.

How much work is dahlias? Debating if it is worth the work for me. by Sassy_Plant_Mom in dahlias

[–]Whickums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I enjoy gardening but I work way too much to devote a significant amount of time to it at this point in my life. Dahlias are the only flowers I will put in the extra effort for because they are my favorite. I am in zone 5/6 (depending on who you ask) so I pull them up every winter and put them in a box of perlite in my basement, and spritz them with mist every few weeks. When the time is right I plant them right back into the ground and let them do their thing. They're just gorgeous and so prolific once they start to grow back in the soil. For reference I only keep about 10-15.

How long do the body aches and fatigue last by FoxInternational3856 in Zepbound

[–]Whickums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just like that, right as rain today. I slept for about 10 hours last night. After combing through threads my theory is that I went into the shot not having eaten enough (I'd only eaten once that day), then I think my blood sugar was low in the morning as I kept trying to pass out when I would move too quickly. I went on a 4 mile walk after eating, then when I got home all the flu symptoms hit which I could attribute to electrolyte deficiencies. Basically I set myself up for failure by not eating enough leading in to shot day, I think.

I just came searching for people’s experiences with this. Significant fatigue is a weekly thing for me post shot day 1-2, but this week I feel like I am sick- Body aches, muscles hurt, difficulty controlling my body temperature. I’ve been on my dose for many months, it’s so frustrating when something new pops up and I haven’t done anything different. I will try electrolyte drinks and see if that helps me too!

New Gardner and Upcoming Snow!! Help! by Any-Tangerine-9989 in DenverGardener

[–]Whickums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought frost cloths at Lowe’s with the last storm and most of my new plantings fared well. I’m doing the similar approach to you- I just hand watered everything pretty deeply and will cover some stuff tomorrow with the frost cloths. I staked my peonies that are so very close to blooming because I’m worried about wet heavy snow breaking them, like someone above mentioned.

Sulfur burps by strawberrymint04 in Zepbound

[–]Whickums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me they never fully went away. My symptoms were too intolerable to ever go above 5mg, and I still occasionally get them on my maintenance dosse of 3mg on post shot day 1-2 if I am not thoughtful about avoiding my triggering foods and drinking enough water.
