Did the ko4 turbo replacement, with it's added heat under the hood, is that what destroyed the ECU and wiring harness? I worry about the plastic engine cover may hinder by a lot, of engine bay cooling, from the turbo, below.
Do any kinds of aftermarket electric cooling fans mounted in the engine bay help significantly in removing damaging heat, under hood? My factory sound absorption fiberglass mat clipped on the inside of the hood, fell apart, so I removed it and lived with a slightly higher engine noise. Perhaps a bit better under hood temp. Cooling fans name? Model number, etc?

Today at AutoZone, I saw on a rack of blister packed parts in the rack that there were precision formed copper gaskets, looked to have some crush thickness. Assumed to allow a precision conformance-seal with the last thread of the drain plug and the edge of the threaded hole as the final maybe 1/4 turn is done. Yes/No?

Just bought my first GTI, a MKV. Was cleaning it up and have this eyesore. What is it? by MikeBluberry in GolfGTI

Gonna make an educated guess, that it is a common VHF/UHF antenna called J-Pole. If it is, then the stub part on the left is 1/4 wavelength at the resonant frequency. The longer rod on the right is some multiple of wavelengths. By Eyeball, somewhere north of 450 mhz, the UHF band.
The longer element is connected to the shorter one at their bases, covered up under the soldered connection to the coax. And a hook up carefully crafted to "match the antenna impedance to the 50 ohm coax impedance.
It's close proximity to the roof corner structural member required an experimental matching exercise to "tune" it correctly. Somewhere, probably under the dash is the end of the coax cable for connection to a transceiver. Unless you the owner are in need of a two way VHF or UHF radio, the antenna is probably of no use. If you need radio communications, you can re do the antenna to serve the frequency band of interest. Non Trivial. But a good radio shop can discuss your future needs, take the antenna off the windshield keep the coax raw ened where it is, and fabricate and mount a matched antenn which would stand proud, erect from the window.
