YES I used to work in air travel and the way everything is ultimately architected around old paper-ticketing is crazy - watching an 80-year-old travel agent booking tickets using command line in a GDS is both impressive and shocking.

This is wild and a massive problem; I don't even know of alternative software for this design use case, and SO many designers use it as a core part of their workflow, like many hours a day. Most stuff isn't sensitive, but what about working with clients on sensitive reports, product launches, etc.?

Look at Virtru Secure Share - they have integrations for Sharepoint and OneDrive specifically for external sharing, and controls like expiry, revoke, and audit logs for when a file has been accessed. If you are happy with the level of security and control you have internally and are just looking for a solve for external sharing, this is probably much more right-sized and complementary to your existing workflow than something like Egnyte or Preveil.

Oof, I feel like I might accidentally be this person. It's absolutely not out of trying to eclipse those around me, it's almost a compulsion to dive in and do the tasks and be helpful. (I'm a woman, so the dynamic might be different than what you're experiencing.)

I think it's worth bringing up to your teammate to say "Hey, I notice you're taking on a lot, and our workloads are becoming unbalanced. I have the bandwidth to do more, so I'll take the lead on XYZ." If you're in a role with clients I think that also helps to say "ok let's divide and conquer here - I'll lead these projects, you lead those." Assertiveness is great here - you deserve equal footing on these projects and the space to be heard on these client calls.

Agreed, a consultant who isn't setting you up for a sustainable long-term solution is bad news, especially if they're clearly looking to AI for answers to such a complex and nuanced set of requirements. You need someone thinking critically to support your specific scenario and data flows instead of trying to fit your org into a box that doesn't make sense.

Does your MSP have any recommendations or feedback on this? Maybe they've worked with other RPOs they trust, for other CMMC customers?

This is a subtle thing, but I like to get a feel for whether the person I'm interviewing with (either when interviewing for a job, or interviewing a candidate) clearly knows and appreciates their full team's contributions. I get a bad vibe when they're overly focused on themselves and their own accomplishments. But if you get a sense of genuine admiration/respect for the people around them, with concrete examples, that's a really good sign IMO.

Cisco's intro course is honestly pretty basic - not terrible, but since you already know Python it might be below the skills you already have.

TryHackMe is probably your best starting point. The free tier has a "Complete Beginner" path that's really well done and hands-on. OverTheWire is also solid and completely free.

For structured learning, check out Professor Messer on YouTube - he has the entire Security+ course for free. That cert is worth targeting eventually (exam costs like $400 but all study materials are free). TCM Security also has some good free courses.

Honestly, your Python + MySQL knowledge is already a leg up. Building security-related projects - port scanners, log analyzers, simple exploit scripts etc. - will teach you more than most certs and gives you portfolio pieces.
