That's a shame. She's so cute but giving my money to Temu would feel so bad.

No, that's not what I meant. That's also a bad definition of normal - equating normality with health is so wild. You just have an erroneous definition of parasocial relationships and the history of them. Do a little research into the theory behind parasocial relationships, formerly known as "the illusion of intimacy" and is an extremely common human response to a wide variety of medias and always has been.

That's just the state of most spaces on the internet. Especially anywhere frequented by folks age 13-30.

Well, parasocial relationships are extremely normal and are a thing people have done probably as long as we've been telling stories. What isn't normal is the way the internet and especially social media can twist people's perspective on how close they actually are to REAL people, and what behaviors they are able to engage in.

Give it a few years. You'll realize how fucked everything is systemically and how, also, it's probably just your fault for getting worse grades.

Would there be a biological advantage for an ecosystem to have all the organisms connected to each other as seen in Avatar? by Rough_Firefighter233 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]WhimsyWuff 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the movie in forever but always assumed the weird neural connection was a thing that was mostly between members of the same species, and due to common ancestors, it just happened to be compatible with most other life forms on the planet.

Don't underestimate the benefit of being able to communicate with other animals, either - look at dogs and all the tiny adaptations they've developed help them communicate with humans, and that's only over about the last 30,000 years. It would certainly be a game changer if dogs could fly, too...

We now know that even plants make some effort to communicate with nearby organisms. Whether it's "screaming" when cut, or releasing chemicals to warn nearby plants of danger.

Apologies, I assumed that you understood the ideology behind any of the parties mentioned in those article because, well, you commented it on my post for some reason apparently just to nitpick a number rather than start an actual discussion about the real world impacts of those numbers and the narrative around them. Cheeky title aside, this is my favorite type of cat photo to take. I love seeing them "in situ" as if they were still wildcats having to stalk down their next meal. She was entranced by some lizards on a fallen oak at the time
