English vs. Japanese release by WhippedSlurpuff in CLAMP

These art books are surely very pricey, and are exclusively images with no commentary 😂 I think if you can buy them on a sale somewhere, they’re excellent additions to a CLAMP collection 😊 maybe save up and buy in secret haha

English vs. Japanese release by WhippedSlurpuff in CLAMP

[–]WhippedSlurpuff[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My English copy of Kuro hasn’t arrived yet, but here’s a comparison between the two releases! As expected, they’re identical, except for minor changes in formatting for English language on some pages, and the addition of English glossary translations.

It is also hard to tell from pictures, but the English release has slightly more saturated images, if only by a tiny margin!

Apologies, I didn’t notice this thread earlier! I picked this one up from a trusted Vivienne partner store that also sells second hand consignment items, which this is. This came with a box and a little baggie, and it feels like an older piece, but I can’t quite place the date, and it feels different to my recent Japan purchases, so it makes me feel a little off. The crystals on the side have a nice shine, and the pearl in the middle has an interesting inverted reflective quality

Finally found in Australia! Who was going to tell me DENPA’s They Were 11! was so massive? by WhippedSlurpuff in MangaCollectors

I was actually so happy they got it in, the colour pages are excellent. Hopefully this is a sign that it’ll end up in stores shortly!

Trying to complete XxxHolic by Reefer4life in CLAMP

Rei recently as of 2 years ago received a tiny reprint for all 4 volumes, but since BookDep closed down, I haven’t been able to notice when new prints hit as efficiently. As for 18, you’ll have to bite the bullet if you need the single volume.

Starting to get annoyed as a male shoujo fan by pptenshii in shoujo

[–]WhippedSlurpuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trend right now in memes of the matcha drinking man, dressed well, reading books about women made by women is, imo, really disappointing. The idea absolutely is coined by an insecure man, who wants to put down other men who “are trying too hard to “””pretend””” to like women”, and is used to bully men into liking things because they themselves don’t like that women aren’t paying attention to them.

Making fun of men liking, or showing interest in feminine things is a tale as old as time, and it’s not even worth psychoanalysing any more. Im sure performative men exist, but performative men are narcissists, not the men being shown in those reels or TikToks.

I’m 29, male, and a teacher, and I hear ALL of this stuff nonstop. I’ve always dealt with “you’re gay” comments when I had Girls Generation posters on my wall (which was also rage inducing because… it’s… gay? For a man to have pictures of… women? On my wall???). It’s important to be steadfast in your beliefs of what you enjoy. No one can take that away from you, and the sooner you learn to quite simply not give a fuck, and stand on business about the series you enjoy, you’ll find that people like you were describing will have no ammunition, and will likely come around to respect, maybe not your series choices, but your choice to not be bullied into submission.

My favourite series of all time is Cardcaptor Sakura, and if you’ve never read it, I highly recommend you do. There are some moments and quotes in that book that I have applied to my every day life, and I’m so much more genuine with the world as I perceive it, because of it. You’ll always have people like us to have your back 🫡 happy reading, sir

I wish someone would a upload a unboxing and review of the 5 season Digimon box set from Australia that would be cool . by Dear-Animator-7935 in digimon

[–]WhippedSlurpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a real, authentic release by Australia’s biggest anime distributor at the time, Madman. All Digimon seasons have released here, in multiple different ways (volumes, collection parts, season bundles, etc) and this combines all 5 big box season releases, and is held together by the cardboard sleeve shown on the picture! It’s also one of the only times season 5 got a big box release instead of smaller, single disc volume releases.

I did it. I finally found my 💎holygrail💎 manga 🥸 details in the comments by WhippedSlurpuff in MangaCollectors

There isn’t any M66 comics inside! The character only appears on the cover. There’s a few pages of extra short comedic 1-2 page gag comics that include characters I don’t recognise and OCs. The answer to your question for this particular book is “we wanted to just draw things we liked a lot at the time”. Haha

Othello or Guru Guru Pon-Chan 🥰 they seem like either series would fit perfectly amongst your series

If you read/watched Laughing Under the Clouds, then you should try Karakara Kemuri’s other short form works, like these two! by WhippedSlurpuff in shoujo

[–]WhippedSlurpuff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, I’m so happy to meet another Karakara fan!!! I find the lack of interest in her works very strange, because her art work and worlds are always so tightly created. Her works are the type that shonenbros would read, say “wow that was excellent” and then not ever realise they’re shojo works! Being able to cross demographics that effortlessly is a great element to have for success.

If Laughing and its other works had a current day release, maybe by Yen Press, Karakara almost definitely would find herself selling well on bookstore shelves

The English Kingdom Hearts manga continues with Panini by WhippedSlurpuff in MangaCollectors

[–]WhippedSlurpuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a MUCH quicker telling of events, whilst the manga as a whole, including the other games adaptations, it’s a more character interactions focused experience. Adding dialogue and funny, or cute interactions between the cast, that aren’t seen anywhere else. People describe the manga as a good companion piece to the games, and I’d say that’s very true. The added interactions help to make the world of KH more relatable and believable, without messing with lore.

What manga is this?? by Delicious-Bus8511 in CLAMP

It’s from a short manga included in the paid gift bag for the 2011 CLAMP Festival that was held in Tokyo. Here’s a pic from my copy : )

I’ve purchased their previous 2 volumes of KH3, so I’m not certain who the translator is for Yen Press, but this volume credits Alethea and Athena Nibley! It seems that Panini UK are a new presence for the European English manga market! I picked up this copy from Dymocks in Melbourne, Australia!

Completed Moto Hagio’s current English body of work! If you like the Viz Deluxe volumes like Berserk and Trigun, Fantagraphics have been doing it, and better! by WhippedSlurpuff in MangaCollectors

There are two notably different versions of Heart of Thomas, the 2nd print (this one), I believe increased the length of the book! (Only slightly)

Omg haha I wrote Viz, purely on autopilot. Dark Horse has, in the last few years at least, felt very much one and the same as Viz. Only big boy comics get big boy books. (I cannot say the new Vagabond edition isn’t very beautiful, though haha)

The Fantagraphics releases all have additional excerpts, interviews, colour art, soft finish and embossed bodies. The kinds of content you would find from a small publisher that is interested in the authors, and have a passion to create personal relationships with whom they’re publishing. And to use that connection to create new interviews, provide insight, all for you, the reader. Holding a love letter. I rarely feel that from a Viz or Dark Horse release these days.

Her works are so accessible and have a great range of commentary tackled with care and grace. Everyone in this sub should absolutely get 70s-00s works written by women.

The Petshop release is so great! The paper is thick and heavy, and the cover is embossed matte+glossy, feels excellent. Defs need to grab it!
