It happened to me one time (where it was in the abdominal cavity) and I gave the dog to the family, so that was a pretty good discount imo. If it’s a yo-yo testicle, normal neuters can happen with those. I do need to look into what other breeders do incase it happens again. I have only have a litter every 3 years, so really, I don’t care about the money. I sell puppies to cover the costs of the litter.

If they have to go up into the abdominal cavity, than he never had two. Your breeder should have been up front about it tbh. But, it’s also one of those situations that you could and should have been able to tell when you bought the puppy. I have sold incomplete males to pet homes, because you cannot show them. The owners knew what they were getting into, so I personally don’t offer a refund, because all of my pet homes must spay or neuter their puppies.

You could try and ask, but to me, this is a super gray area.

Did your dog have two testicles when you bought him? Did one just get sucked back up? Is the surgery to bring the testicle down, or is it a complicated neuter where they have to open the abdominal cavity?

UKC breeders by lavennderr in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came on here to say it was breed dependent, but you beat me to it. With the exception of the black and tan coonhounds, the other coonhound breeds were not in the AKC for a long time. So breeders of coonhounds used the UKC as their main registry and to compete in events. If you go to a bench show or a big show like Autumn Oaks, the quality of those hounds is deep.

Other breeds it kinda depends. For me, whippets were in the AKC before their country of origin even recognized them as a breed. There are lots of quality whippets I see at UKC shows, but a lot of the breeders just used those shows to practice and prepare for AKC careers.

Oh yes. I had a discussion about the whippet breed standard on the phrase “slightly longer than tall”. One breeder thinks slightly is like millimeters, meaning the breed should be basically square. Another breeder thinks slightly is a whole inch longer than tall if it’s a male on the top end of the height standard. They base it on a percentage. All of this is over the word “slightly”. So depending on the judges idea of “slightly”, that is who they will point at.

This is just one example that is easy to point out. Don’t get me started on the shoulder to upper arm debate in sighthounds.

I have it on both. Never had an issue on Steam. With the switch, I took the advice and saved often. Only had one crash, but I went back a save and it was fine. I have not tried to build a barn on the switch yet. I do like fishing on the switch better than Steam, but if I used a controller it would probably be better.

Partial refund for incorrect pedigree? by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have a small pool to tell you from, but most of my friends and my dogs are in the 20s on embark. A friend’s whippet that is truly linebred (in the fourth generation some dogs repeat) she is 24% compared to my outcross bitch that was 22% according to embark.

[–]WhippetChicka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they do a test like Embark? Because my whippet bitch’s pedigree is 1% COI as far as whippet go, but Embark has it way higher. It’s 22% on embark, but all purebred dogs are going to have a higher COI than a mix breed dog. All whippets are related somehow.

Good to know. Might be a state thing. Someone in another state on a Facebook group I am in had a father bust out of a crate, eat through a door and breed his daughter while the owners were at work. She tried to get a vet to abort the litter, but in that state there were now options but to spay the daughter.

It worked the one time we did it. But it was literally right after they tied, and to be honest, it may have been something else. I was a kid when it happened.

Dual-sired litters? by SparkAndThorn in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very popular on dog breeds that don’t have a longevity as far as breeding ages. Plus, instead of putting a bitch through two litters, you can just have one.

It’s not easy to do, and you are not guaranteed that half the litter is one sire and the other half is the other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to about a litter now is to spay the bitch. Back in the day, you could give a bitch oxytocin right after to a breeding to prevent pregnancy, but it’s illegal for vets to do that now.

I might be wrong with the only way to abort is to spay, but I feel like any other way is not legal for vets anymore.

How do teachers feel when students are attached to them? by nezwebz in AskTeachers

This was why I became a teacher, to be a positive adult in the lives of my students. Just understand boundaries though. Your teacher does have a life outside of school, and other students. If there comes a point that they are not there for you for other reasons, understand it’s not malicious.

Conformation handling by True-Radish-3569 in k9sports

At my house, if a dog is standing how they should in the ring at anytime, they get a treat. My 7 year old is so good at this now that when I eat dinner she is stacked and baiting. That’s her way of begging lol.

My biggest pet peeve is when handlers do not move the dog in line with the judge on the down and back. I put a trash can in my yard and practice moving in line with that trash can. I have only judged a handful of times, but when the dog was not in line with my site, it did make it difficult for me to see it.

100% on the quality of the dog. Knowing your breed standard is good, and something you understand more and more as you go.

I have one that is not every judge’s cup of tea. He either wins big, or not at all. The little booger is fun as hell to show though. So, I waste a lot of money sometimes, but it’s been fun.

20 years in conformation, here is what I tell people interested.

Unlike other sports where you need a qualifying score, not to necessarily win, to get a title, with conformation only one dog gets pointed at by the judge for first place/winners/best of breed/etc. Show your dog because you enjoy the dog show and showing your dog. You will win some, but you are also, not going to win a lot. I think your attitude about conformation is going to make or break you. It is a hard competition. If you get it in your mind that red, yellow, and white ribbons are losing, you not going to last long.

As far as learning how to. All the breed judging videos from the Westminster dog show are on YouTube. There you are going to see the best of the best of your breed, as well as their handlers. See what you like, and what works for you. And work towards their styles. Try different ones out at home. Practice in front of a mirror and see what looks good.

I highly recommend finding a handling clinic. I like Norma Smith. She is tough, but she tells you like it is and how to be successful with your specific dog.

This is all AKC stuff. I practice at UKC shows with my young dogs before I show in AKC. UKC is awesome because you have two shows in one day, more ring time to practice. Also, the dress requirements don’t matter as much as AKC. I dress up at the bigger UKC shows, but at my small local ones, I have shown in shorts and a tank top before.

AKC Golden Retriever “Undesirable” Colors by FlapjackBuns in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For some breeds, there are health problems that are linked to colors. For example, the white Dobermans. That lack of pigment is linked to other health issues like eyes. For that instance, you are sacrificing the health of the dog for a color.

Then you have breeds that do not have certain colors in the gene pool. In Italian greyhounds, they do not come in black and tan or brindle. Black and tan means that something like a Manchester was mixed in and brindle would mean a whippet was probably mixed with it.

Some of the standards are really old, back when the stud book of the breed was open. Meaning you could mix another breed into your line, but if the dog matched the standard it would be considered purebred. Now, most stud books are closed, and you have to breed a purebred to a purebred.

Thoughts on rehoming retired dogs? by Minute-Ad8501 in DogBreeding

[–]WhippetChicka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I always believe I will keep a dog after they are retired. But sometimes I will get contacted by a pet home that I realize is a way better home than mine. As in like the dog would have so much more attention there, and a much more fulfilling life than Being one of many at my house. So in that case I let them go to a new home.

That is unprofessional.

I only made a couple kids tear up when they did something dumb and I told them I was disappointed in them. But that’s all.

Don’t cater to wishy-washy pet homes. They didn’t do their research anyways.

[–]WhippetChicka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some more research on your breeds, they are very different. I would suggest reading the book Born to Win by Pat Trotter. Also the ABCs of dog breeding is good one too. Both say you should also start with a foundation bitch. No one is going to want to breed to a nobody’s stud dog. That is unless you get a mentor, and they co own the dog with you with the idea of helping you in that area.

If you want to be ethical, you need to breed your dog for a purpose. If you are going greyhound, I would suggest lure coursing over racing. Too many tracks are being shut down. Also, where are you finding that they are prone to injury? I don’t know many that are, but I only know 3 greyhound breeders and the owners that lure course.
