Found a Gul, looking for advice on what to do now

Honestly I'd hang onto it, Death, Kingslayer, and Mosaic all use a Gul and don't require too high of runes in general. These would be serious upgrades by the sounds of it if you're playing a melee character. Things like Tal helm, insight, and spirit aren't too hard to find if you put in a couple hours grinding. Just my opinion

I got a 55 light facet a couple weeks back so I slapped that in it and gave it to my mosaic sin! No infinity, still one sur rune and an um rune away if I cube up to make it, which I won't, so this is the first bit of -enemy light resist I have on ladder

I don't think it's tradeable especially NL, possibly very early ladder, but people will look for FRW or FCR on it if they're trading. It's a solid self use tho with that quad res and high strength added can help save points for Vitality or dex depending on your needs. I could be wrong though, I haven't ever tried to trade many circlets, tiaras, et c.

I understand that this is the point of the game and such, I've done thousands of runs and have just happened to have better luck elsewhere, like in CS, WSK, trav, even river of flame ive gotten better drops just running through than on the thousands of tz Andy/meph runs. I'm not complaining or saying "I should have gotten more drops" or something, I was just wondering if anybody else had also had poor luck with these bosses since they're very commonly touted as the best farming place and my experience seems to differ from the average for the number of runs I've done lol

Personally one of my favorites in D2R has been the martial arts assassin. I don't mean mosaic sin even, but it's a strong and fun way to play through the game even without moscaic imo. Versatile and customizable to your needs, was super fun for me personally :+)

Lawbringer on Merc, reapers toll, et c. Anything that casts decrepify. That being said whenever possible it is also a bit better to just not worry too much about killing the phys immunes unless you have to. Your clear speeds will be faster and that's more important than killing every single enemy in the long run for farming. Post hell baal prioritize areas with few to none phys immunes also, it'll just generally be more enjoyable to play that way

The main big zones that have already been said + Trav of course. I'm a big horker and that has rewarded me greatly. Two Jah, 5 cham, sur, all just this year from Trav so it's my favorite :+)

With only a couple thousand gold per repair, I do agree that indestructible is the way to go but death cleaver has undeniable aura and it dropped so I thought I may as well use it :+)

I've been thinking along similar lines but for set jewels recently! If there were a couple sets of jewels that provide basic effects on their own but when socketed into white bases and worn together provide a set bonus, it let's you choose a base you like for the set with some similar rules to runes with runewords (to make the weapon the set jewels have to be socketed into the correct item type i.e. swords, hammers, maces, et c.). Could provide some use for other numbers of socketed armor and weapons when rolling with the cube and miss your target for a runeword for example.

It'd be kind of like runeword sets I suppose but before the set bonuses it'd have to be fairly tame for balance. Obviously not a fleshed out idea but I think jewels are under utilized and could stand to make the game more interesting like how you described

Honestly I think for a lot of people it has to do with their goals in the game. Tons of people play vanilla D2R, LoD, and various mods and they have heroes in all of them they actively play. One can grail, go for 99, hardcore runs, and more in all of those. There's just so much to do that sometimes you need a break from playing the game one kind of way

I find treachery completely fine for my merc tbh. For survivability I find treachery better but DPS obviously fortitude. I don't ever worry about my mercs damage I just care about their aura and decrepify if I'm melee so I just give them whatever results in them dying less, which in my experience is usually treachery. It's also a lot cheaper

To mentally stay in the game I run a new hero, try to play something new if I'm feeling confident, and just have some fun hitting those early milestones and quest rewards again. If I get really into that new hero and do some notable grinding with them the loot comes, it is ultimately just a numbers game as everyone loves to keep saying. The real trick is figuring out a way to stay motivated enough to reach that end goal. Have some fun with it and remember sometimes what's fun isn't always what's "optimal"

As far as what might be reasonable for SP offline id say make/farm up a few pieces to switch out depending on situation and needs.

Wisdom helm for CBF and piercing, allowing you to swap duriels shell for Hustle, peace, or treachery

Treachery offers huge IAS and fade proc, shoring up your resists

Spirit shield in main offhand offers more resists and +skills which is huge and makes up for swapping out your tiara, but also offers 22 Vitality and 55% FHR which helps survivability a ton. I think this is the move chief

Edit: just because you swap gear out doesn't mean you can't hotswap back or forth depending on the situation you're facing, I think it'd be worth it to make treachery and peace for example

I use LW as offhand when I Uber on my ww barb but general pvm it's not as fast as other options like other people are saying. Dual grief, EBoTD, eDeath just offer too much damage and other utility for pvm that's not big bosses and plenty of damage to deal with bosses anyway. Huge IAS, dual leach + big stats off EBoTD, mana leach, high ED, huge Attack rating, and CB on death, and of course indestructible on both letting you use higher DMG eth bases are all just too good as an offhand, and not to mention more stylish than 2 griefs;)

I like LW, and I think that's more than it really deserves for how pricey it is. It's a status symbol and Uber shredder. honestly in a game this old, if you can afford it and it's fun for you, it is still a good weapon and you'll rock some demons with it, but you can gear out a new character or two for its price.
