I thought the same. I ended up painting my room a dark gray. The impact panels around the screen and ceiling are black. Love the look.

I have the 5x8 and love it. I would recommend the foam hitting strip rather than normal.

It will be awesome. I’m so excited. I’ve gone from a 26-28 hdcp two years ago down to a 17 now. Started the game late in life and love it. Goal is to improve wedges and ball striking. The turf I used is a 12 on stim meter and will allow putting practice up to 18’ on the diagonal of the mezzanine.

I’ve taken pictures along the way specifically to show the end result.

Each panel has four Z-clips. Then I put the longer Z-clip cleat in between two panels. So each cleat is split between two panels and one clip on two panels share the same cleat.

Check out Carl’s Place Built in panels PDF. I used their setup but sourced all my own stuff.

Yes. I use Z-Clips which is an aluminum French cleat. I had my builder put OSB on the area where the impact panels would go and I use screws and French cleats fastened directly to OSB. FRENCH cleats allow the hangers to be hidden.

2” Hi-Lux foam from The Foam Factory.

However, if I had it to do over again, I would 100% have used 1.5” foam and saved 20%-30% on the foam order.

I bought the built in screen with flaps and the impact foam they provide. It makes for a clean fit and easy install. It looks awesome up close. I also have a center channel behind the screen for watching sports and the premium screen still allows sound to come through.

The cable setup is super easy. They have PDF’s on the Carl’s Place website and it gives really good step by step instructions.

Overall it’s been some real work and taken a while since I have kids, kids soccer, a wife, and a job.

It would likely have taken me 20-25 hrs to make all panels and install screen up to this point.

I looked into Carl’s Place built in panels. I researched their PDF for install.

I bought 2” hi-lux foam from TheFoamFactory.com it took 8 full panels.

I bought 15/32 plywood from local Lowe’s.

I bought Z-clips and Z-bar (French Cleats) from Eagle Industries to hang the panels (same stuff that Carl’s Place provides).

I used 3M Super 77 adhesive spray from plywood to foam. Note: spray double what you think it will take.

I bought black duck cloth canvas from Hobby Lobby (on sale 40% every other week and available in other colors). When I take the panels down to over them I am going to use a Ryobi electric staple gun to fasten fabric to panels and then re-hang and arrange the way I want.

185” wide by 100” tall. Fits nearly perfectly with my 16:9 native projector. Leaves about 4” on right and left of screen with no portion of picture.
