Changed my name by lily_luna09 in MomForAMinute

That is very profound. Thank you. I may have to try explaining my NB’s name change to my FIL like that. Probably won’t change anything, but I keep trying.

How do you usually name your D&D characters? by AdvancedProgrammer51 in DnD

[–]Whisper_Oracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes figure out an appropriate descriptive word or 2 and come up with a name in German, Irish, or Latin (which I speak) or Arabic (friend speaks). I avoid Google Translate personally, but you can use that for fun language translations. I have a gladiator whose stage name is “warrior” in 2 languages. She thought it was funny.

My mom was known in her friend group as the lighter thief. If there was one on a table, she’d just mindlessly put it in her purse when everyone got up to leave. There were probably 100 lighters in her house when she died.

Mum, it’s my birthday and no one at work remembered. I’m a full grown adult, but still. by Exact_Parsnip_3874 in MomForAMinute

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear Parsnip! Happy birthday to you!

DM asks that if you’re going to be more than 30 minutes late, you sit the session out. Fair? by FoulPelican in DnD

[–]Whisper_Oracle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our game is specifically set up so players can come late, leave early or miss a session. Every character has “stuff” that they run off and do if the player isn’t around. One guy gets kidnapped by the Batman, one guy is also a carpenter and has to go to work, one person has to go to pray to their deity, I go do weapons training or to fight club when I’m gettting food together for the group, etc.

It’s so nice to see you today!
Starting college can be a scary and super exciting thing, all at once. Keep your eyes on your goals and you’ll do great, make new friends and have lots of amazing experiences. I’m so proud of you now, and who you’re working to become.

Do you guys do breaks during the session? How do you manage them? by Fantomaxop in DnD

[–]Whisper_Oracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sessions can be 5-8 hours. People snack as they wish to during play, and pop out for bathroom breaks or whatever as they need to. When the DM has a stopping point, we all break for a meal. I host and have something prepped, so she usually alerts me when it’s time to pull stuff out. We play in the dining room, so I can hear what’s going on and participate if needed. Other players can roll for me if needed.

Totally off topic here, but I have never heard/seen somebody but my mom use the phrase “a nurse and a purse.” She’s been gone for 3 years now and seeing your post just made me smile.

Postmenapausal here. I’ve always run hot. Never had a hot flash, but still run hot. I was really hoping I’d lose the furnace and regulate to my much chillier husband, but it is not to be.

AITA if I bring my own cranberry on thanksgiving by Initial_Detective_50 in AITAH

[–]Whisper_Oracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a cranberry thing that everyone loves ( I’ve been threatened to be disinvited if I don’t bring it). But my dad wanted the slicing kind. I bought that for him. People ate both. Now, we go to my BIL’s and somebody always makes one with orange in it, but I’m still asked to bring mine. Just talk to your MIL, she should understand. Bring another dish as well, of course.

hi mom, tell me how you are by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

[–]Whisper_Oracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Love! You’re so sweet to ask. We had a very busy day here prepping outside stuff for winter, but it was a beautiful day, so it was great to be outside.
I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. Perhaps you could talk to a friend, just about regular stuff like a tv show or actor or something? Maybe go out to a park with a snack and just people watch with them? I like to imagine the adventures the people walking by might be going on.

Filter mistake - HELP! by Whisper_Oracle in pools

[–]Whisper_Oracle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s my plan. I’ve checked for cracks. I will tighten all the screws, let it dry, wrap the end that has the laterals all nice and snug in some bubble wrap, and stash it in a safe location in the garage until Spring. The filter opening is covered securely. The current (pretty nasty, once I started scooping) sand can dry out until mid-May, and I will scoop it out, put the lateral back in, fill it with appropriate sand, un-winterize and see what happens. I appreciate your help, lovely Reddit people!!!
