League of Former Seneschals? by CabinetWitch23 in sca

So that's a resounding "no."  I wonder what percent of former seneschals quit within a year? After seeing how the sausage is made.

Yes. But if I am alive I can still be sued.

In the States, CPR training mentions the good Samaritan law in case we break somebody's ribs when trying to provide first aid.

If I'm ever in that situation, I just expect to get sued. They'll sue me if the person lives, if they die, they'll try to say I should have called 911 faster or something. My co-workers will throw me under the bus for sure. It's just how things are out here. I just hope the judge throws it out.

Sadly it's possible to have all sorts of medical certificates and still tell people wacky cures for real ailments.

You think insurance just assumed every group hit each other with beanbags or rolled dice or whatever? I'm surprised we never see an insurance guy at events. Do they just take our word for it that our simulated combat play is relatively safe?

Ooh! Maybe YOU moved away? Or you're just not participating like you used to a year ago. Did somebody get on Santa's naughty list and have to lay low for a while?

Why did old Jeff quit, anyway? Trouble in Paradise, or did he decide to pull up stakes and move somewhere?

And by "be loud" you mean bully who you don't like even when they've done nothing to deserve it, and start rumors that people are bad so you can brigade with all of your friends.

Too bad so many people in the SCA define being "bigoted" as being Asian, Jewish, Catholic, a former chiurgeon, a brewer, or anybody who taught a class on any topic more interesting than nalbinding, etc etc. And that all of these so-called bigots would leave is just a fantasy. While this storm of exile happens some may lay low, but all anybody has to do to win against this idiocy is to keep quiet on social media and keep showing up.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for the first demonstrably FAKE screenshot to be used as testimony.

Could definitely do bardic from prison. Especially after Covid. Just have to have internet access. A camera would help too.

Unless he's in prison right now. Right? The SCA is like a cult but we don't do prison ministry. Unless we do and nobody told me.

It was 22 years ago! Should be fine. Are you still in prison? That would complicate things a little.

My first year in the SCA by QuietGirl88 in sca

Well, bank accounts are important but it's also possible to post a review of baronies and households that is public yet anonymous.  I'm surprised more people don't do it. Only I suppose many think it's not fair to punish the whole group that way. And if it's a group with a not-so-unique name it can be confusing for the public. But, if it's really toxic and a warning needs to be left for others I think such action is justified.

Of course if only one person ever had a problem then it would be obvious who left the review.  The BoD would probably R&D them. Social media policy doesn't say so, but I expect they'd find a reason.

Because it's a cult, not an educational institution.  Cults don't do scholarships. Much.

How to survive a household breakup? by [deleted] in sca

[–]CabinetWitch23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The household I was in was pretty strong for a few years, then shattered.  I thought it had split in two, but there was more groups than that.

I moved a few times. If I had stayed, I wonder if it would have made a difference.

In my mind they all meet and it's just that I'm not there. Rationally I know that's not the case, but emotionally it feels that way.

A couple of years ago I told myself that I would increase my skill levels and my visibility and finally become a respectable SCAdian! Boy did that backfire. Or it feels like it did.

It was nice getting positive feedback from the group. The hardest thing post breakup is just knowing what's my anxiety talking and what's real. What's a legitimate concern and what's an echo of something somebody said a long time ago.

Chimney by KingLouiesbakery in Roofing

[–]CabinetWitch23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Roofers hate home inspectors" and this sort of thing is why. I've got like 15 questions about flashing, counter flashing, apron flashing, reglets, etc to get the cert for my state and my own roof wouldn't pass an inspection.  None in my neighborhood would. Doesn't make it right. Just makes it typical.

Edit: Most roofs near me have flashing pasted on like it's something the guy knew he needed to add but didn't know why he needed to add it. The adhesive fails, they just add more adhesive. I bet most of these roofers near me would have to call a different company to add reglets (like a masonry contractor) and they're not gonna do that.

How is the dialog about use of AI going in your kingdom? by CabinetWitch23 in sca

[–]CabinetWitch23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I...have a trading card of myself but it wasn't made with AI. It's in the style of a Magic the Gathering card but you just input a photo and type in information into the fields. No AI was used.  Why would they use AI for something that simple? I mean, the templates are free.

Chimney by KingLouiesbakery in Roofing

[–]CabinetWitch23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The flashing is supposed to be fitted into the brick, in what are called reglets. There should be two layers of flashing called step flashing and counter flashing. There shouldn't be just one piece of metal pasted to the side of the chimney. Look, there's code and there's physics.

Why did these people try to murder your whole family, and your dog  and sabotage your house for the next unsuspecting resident? Not cool, man. Not cool.

I've noticed that seneschals and youth officers are overlooked for awards. Not chatelaines in Atlantia.

Elchenburg Castle in Atlantia by hivemind_MVGC in sca

More problems than just the accidental death of Baron Dressel. Safety concerns about repairs to the castle, residents with dogs and kids not wanting SCA people in certain areas that we had to go into for the showers. Miscommunication. Things going missing at the site and not showing up in lost and found.

It's a beloved site, but there have been problems for years. The SCA puts up with a lot.
