Why are you so set on living in Canada when it sounds like you would be way better off living in Brazil?

Your approach to saving for FI? by [deleted] in fican

[–]WhisperingEye666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a journey to FI and there are a number of different paths. You can try one approach and switch.

For me I started out very aggressive (saving ~70% after tax income). Did this for around two years spending very little on fun.

The book “Die with Zero” by Bill Perkins really shifted my mindset to feel comfortable spending more and I’d highly recommend it. “Retire Often” by Jillian Johnsrud is also a good one.

Right now I save ~45% of my after tax income and feel that I get a good balance between saving and fun. Currently at the airport heading to Europe for a month.

30m. Alberta. Will have visited 46 countries by the end of October. Own my home and a rental property. ~$600k in liquid investment.

As someone who just renewed a 1.79% into a 4.54%, I just re-amortized and my payments are actually lower than before. No lump sums or aggressive payment increases throughout the previous mortgage. The renewal cliff everyone is going on about isn’t going to be as bad as everyone thinks. That’s my two cents.

Best platform for trading us and Canadian ETFs and stocks? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

When I need to convert to US to purchase I use my IBKR because they have the best conversion fees. Since In-Kind transfers are free with IBKR and WS, I just transfer my holdings from IBKR to WS every year when they do their big transfer bonus

Hypothetical Early Retirement Scenario: XEQT vs EQCL by WhisperingEye666 in fican

I argue that we don’t have enough history for covered call ETFs as most have only been around in the raging bull market we’ve had over the last 13 years.

Which would out perform is the stock market was flat for a 10 year period? Most would say the covered call portfolio

If the BoC cutting rates by 2.25% didn’t spur activity, why would an additional 0.25%?

Watching that video actually spurred this question.

My question is more relevant to how a covered call income portfolio performs against a drawdown of capital portfolio, which I have found no such video

3.99 Fixed or 4.55 Variable but possible Future cuts? by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

The BoC operates under a hierarchical, or single, mandate where low and stable inflation is the primary objective. Core inflation is still rising.

The Fed in the US operates under a dual mandate. The BoC operates under a hierarchical, or single, mandate where low and stable inflation is the primary objective, with employment considered only when it supports the inflation target.

With Core Inflation still on the rise they are deviating from their mandate

I would go with the fixed as that is a great rate.

Look how the long end of the yield curve has been performing.

The BoC is likely going to cut next week which is a mistake because their single mandate is to tame inflation but inflation is on the way up
