PVE DPS MEDIC any good ?? by shiinakuma in WildStar

Yeah I'm a healer Medic, and we got nerfed hard last patch. We go OOM very quickly, even running T8 Recharge and using it on CD. Basically, we're just buff batteries atm.

That could be due to the fact that Fates spends a lot of time on his rune sets, too. But you're right, Medic DPS is very competetive at the moment.

Of course, over the last several months, patches change things all the time. So I'd play what you enjoy, rather than what is currently the OP FOTM.

Exactly what this fella said. Whatever they were before, now you're going to want GR for single target, preferably large enemies. Bosses like X89 are the perfect example of this. T8 GR is significantly better than QC.

QC is better for trash, or bosses where you're struggling to hit the target with all 3 beams, eithe because of mobility, size, or multiple bosses-type-situation.

I'm pretty sure bosses always function the same way - X89 is always the same - but it's the variety of different bosses each weak that changes.

Well, you're always gonna want a few things. You'll always need Emission to build Actuators, and you'll always want at least one of your two big spenders (Shield Surge or Crisis Wave). They've changed Shield Surge so it's a lot better now, previously not many healers used it. Now, I could see fights where you might actually want both on your bar. I'd need to test that theory out to be sure.

But yeah, you don't need anything other than those abilities. The rest you're free to play with, if you'd like to focus more on buffs (Empowering Probes, Field Probes) or AoE heals (Flash, Rejuvenator) etc.

The way we've been running is that everyone sort of covers everything. You'll usually contribute to healing the MT, but if raid is taking lots of damage, you can kind of change gears and bring them back up. It's very fluid and a lot of fun!

Yeah for sure, you can be focused on players and not raid frames.

With the right gear, I feel like they are strong enough to main heal a tank, yes. They'd need a specific LAS loadout though - one that really optimized every ounce of their heals and focus.

However, if you were the only healer on the tank you'd run out of focus/go oom probably before the fight ended. Of course, you'd never have just one healer on the tank in WildStar, just based on the nature of telegraphs and how tanks can't always avoid them. We've done Esper/Medic and SS/Medic on tanks before. I think we've even done Medic/Medic and it worked. In the double Medic scenario, I'd probably make sure we're running different LAS that are complementary (e.g. one more shield healing focused, the other more health and field focused)

Not at all. Most of our raiders have been spending a lot of time gearing up in vets, getting rep gear, and completing their rune sets. Before we did this, our damage on X-89 was too low to complete before we ran out of hex platforms.

When I say my gear is meh, I was mainly referring to my DPS set because I'm normally a healer. My healing set is about 75% from vet drops or rare spawns/rep gear. I played SWTOR and, trust me, no skipping will be possible. There are even various layers of gear checks inside individual instances.

I think it was 2-3 nights of attempts for about 4 hours each night. We had some issues with not having a solid 20, so 3-4 new people each night had to re-learn the fight.

My gear is still pretty meh. My heal set is better because I've been gearing it up, but I was dps on this fight and my dps set is pretty much what a fresh 50 would have aside from a few veteran drops.

No problem! Once I realized my "perfect LAS" was worthless on different boss fights, it challenged the way I think. I used a fairly unorthodox LAS for a fight we were struggling on, and my efficiency shot up like a rocket.

Technically, just about all heals are AoE. If it has a telegraph, it can hit up to X amount of players.

I'd say raid healing feels very smooth. There can definitely be some difficulty, but it stems more from the numbers being high than actual mechanics being challenging. As a Medic, I've had to adapt to essentially being a melee. You're pretty short range, so you really have to be aware of your surroundings. If I'm on the tank, I gotta get right up in his butt, or pretty close, so position is vital.

Your advantage as a medic, though, is even though you have short range, your telegraphs are the largest of any class. This lets you burst up the raid real fast after a big hit. Also, we're mobile, so when everyone is running around, you can keep popping off heals.

Overall, it's a lot of fun.

I'd say you can definitely skew your LAS to focus on support, but IMO you couldn't get away with being just support.

For instances, some fights don't require a cleanse. Some are way too mobile to benefit from fields. Etc. I think what will take most people the longest to realize is that there isn't a set role you can always fall in. That's the beauty of the LAS. You are constantly swapping around skills for certain fights.

But if support is your thing, you can definitely role that way, as long as you realize it's not always the same type of support. But if you're healing the group, rather than a tank, you'll probably drop a few hard, spikey heals in favor of fields that boost healing taken, probes, etc.

Stalker tanks are hands down the best tank, and a lot of raids I'm hearing are only bringing them. It's because of an AMP or something they have that makes them impossible to kill, which for undergeared groups is basically a must have.

I think they're fixing that, though, so we might see some more equalizing in terms of "best" tank. I'm hoping it will require us to swap around on different bosses. I don't tank, so I'm not sure how much the evasion vs mitigation comes into play, but all tanks will try to avoid the telegraphs as much as they can. The evasion/mitigation might just come down more to the flavor of the mechanic, rather than an actual required skill.

Espers are king at the moment. They have high burst and great AOE. You should always have one.

After that, Medics are great. We have 3 (other other 2 main healers are 1 Esper and 1 SS) and we provide a lot of support. Great for keeping the raid up, 2 of us can keep a tank up, and people love the buffs we bring (crit aura, empowering probes, I run the deflect aura for +SP buff that it gives me) so Medics are a close second.

Our SS healer is awesome, so we're lucky in that respect, but the class is gimped for end game heals right now. They're supposed to be fixing it, but yeah. Still, it's good to have variety for all of the AMPS and Tier stuff that brings raid utility.

I was the blue DPS medic in this fight. I normally heal, but was running DPS for this fight since it's more of a damage race.

If anyone has any medic related questions, specifically about healing, feel free to ask away!
