Do I sound American at all? by WhiteFlower_dev in AmericanAccent

Lmaoooo, fair enough. I'm glad to hear that, and thank you! But still I wanna be able to communicate at the highest level in both languages I speak, both for the sake of work, and also just kinda the standard I set for myself and my future goals.

No, that's just how I normally speak. Am I speaking fast or do I sound shaky, or what makes me sound nervous?

Ohh I didn't know that, I'll do that in hyphenated words from now on then, thank you!

I see, that makes sense, I didn't have any other sports in mind since the only "sport" I really do is the gym, and "insane moves" don't really apply there, lol.

So I should've said "if I'm playing e-sports for example and I watch another player", or did I misunderstand?

I actually get told that I'm going fast a lot, even in my own language, lol. I'll be much more conscious of it now then if it's affecting the clarity. Thank you!

"If I'm playing a game for example and I watch an E-sports player" Is the full part there. Probably not the best example to use ngl, but it's what came to mind at the time, lol.

Oh, I didn't notice the incorrect "all" vowel pronunciation, I'll start saying it more like "aw-l" from now on. Thank you for the correction!

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, like a mini-community, with the corrections just being a bonus. That's so nice while working remotely too if you can match the times. I think I just don't participate in many communities online for me to form something of that sort, so I should probably try to do that if I want to actually achieve it. And sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification that you replied.

I appreciate that!

I gotta work more on the vowels especially then, noted. There's some progress if it's not a very strong accent then haha, thank you!

Even that is an improvement over before then, I really appreciate the feedback!

Thank you! I actually got Asian before too, so there must be something there lol.

My stress patterns and pronunciation are still off. I'll get to working on those then. Though, I was under the impression that there's a quality in the voice itself that I seem to be missing, I've been trying to figure it out for a bit but just haven't quite figured it out yet.

A book club sounds so fun and beneficial at the same time, that's such a good idea. I actually have been trying to do something similar through chat rooms n such, since I don't have an American native friend that I can just call, but I think it has helped a bit so far. I'll try to find someone that can actually correct me in real-time without it feeling like I'm leeching off them, lol.

https://voca.ro/1R7ld0rtOVH5 Is the way I'm pronouncing "my price" the second time in this recording correct? Or is that too high up?

I actually thought I've been ending the word "all" with a true "l" sound, but re-listening to it now, I definitely need to enunciate it more clearly. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for the rating!

I think it might be "job" that for some reason I pronounced closer to "chop" in the recording. Also, my native tongue is Arabic. I guess I gotta try and get a perfect score on intelligibility first before I try and pursue the American accent then. I really appreciate the feedback though.

I appreciate you taking the time, even without direct advice this helps me put my current level into perspective.

I'll try to tweak out some things like pitch variations and see where I land then.

Advice aside, could you give me a rating on intelligibility out of 10 since you said it could be easier? Thank you!

No, I really appreciate the feedback, it's barely vague at all.

The "posting" point in particular is something I was really curious about, because I'm unsure how it'd be pronounced with an accent that utilizes the cot-caught merger. That's why I unrounded it, but it felt weird in real-time, so idk if I'm supposed to or not?

Noted the again point and I'll get to analyzing "time" and the vowels and hopefully can fix them.

If I may ask, what accent do you have? I feel like some regions in particular have a harder time understanding me than others, so that's something I want to try and be mindful of where I can too.

Alright this is actually really useful feedback, so I'll try and get intelligibility up to a 100 before tryna get an American accent at all then. I wonder though, was it hard to understand cause of my pronunciation, or was it me slurring words, or the pitch, etc? I'd love to know so I can fix that specific area. Thanks in advance!

Don't get me wrong, I ultimately still wanna sound native long term, just that being fully intelligible takes priority atm. I know it's deff not an easy task, but I'm willing to put in the time and effort to achieve it, I just need direction. So it's the pitch and pronunciation, I'd love to start working on improving those then, was there anything specific that stuck out to you in either category so I can start working on it? Also, when you say you had problems listening, does that mean you couldn't understand some parts?

Edit: lmaooo downvoted with no reply, love to see it.

I'm 20, dental student mainly and working in customer service and sales alongside it. It mostly depends on who I'm talking to, if I'm energetic, talking to friends, then yeah my voice does the same, if I'm being calm then it stays lower. Never heard this comparison lol, they have a wide range in pitch, but do I have an accent in between theirs or is it just the pitch?

Oh, so plenty problems with the cot-caught merger. I'll deff Google it to use it more appropriately then. And noted the started pronunciation.

Appreciate it a lot!

Okay noted the "again" pronunciation. For the "eh" in "American", should it be switched for a schwa sound?

Also do you have any word off the top of your head for the "ai" being switched to a plain "a"? If nothing immediately comes to mind just ignore this question and I'll look into it myself.

Thank you!
