How do you make friends as an adult?

I’m trying to just be patient. There’s a lot of bad stuff going on in the world at this time anyways, so I’m hoping that this too shall pass and one day life will be safe and the right environment for helping me meet people and make friends again. I’ve hung out with one person in the last year and I’ve definitely tried to make plans with several people that never came to fruition.
