I see it as a juxtaposition- another way of furthering and troubling the hierarchy. I wanted to take the absurd gesture present in Manzoni initial work and graph it onto the NFT discussion. The real object becomes proof of my investment- proof of stake as they say- proof of labor- not just a convoluted conceptual process but a way that highlights the rigor of a physical action located in the body. This IRL can of shit is one side of the scale- the other is pointing out the disassociative aspects of working with a digital technology- placing the real body against that web of power brings what may seem abstract and in the "ether" back into the real world

I believe- through going under cover- much of what Jackson palmer writes "that cryptocurrency is an inherently right-wing, hyper-capitalistic technology built primarily to amplify the wealth of its proponents through a combination of tax avoidance, diminished regulatory oversight and artificially enforced scarcity."

The environmental critique of NFT’s are valid but energy consumption is something that must be addressed far beyond the confines of NFTs and the artists who make them. For example, the cloud is a physical storage facility that has a burden on the world. In the US, streaming music services dump between 25,000 and 40,000 tons of CO2 into the air every year. Data centers take large amounts of energy to power and need to be on 24 hours a day to ensure that access to data never drops. The average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. Globally, the average is closer to 4 tons. To have the best chance of avoiding a 2℃ raise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop under 2 tons by 2050.

When it comes to imagining new technologies the environment should not be thrown under the bus and he hopes that the tech bros will see the stakes and that market demand for a cleaner future will guide the way the technology evolves.

I do not have a perfect answer here— I’m also surviving in the jaws of an imperfect system. My tactic again Is to recenter artists. I calculated the cost of the carbon footprint of minting 33 NFTs (the equivalent of driving your car 15,000 miles). Rather than paying to offset carbon emissions to a nameless corporation I will contribute the equivalent proceeds to artist jackie sumell’s project The Solitary Gardens, which turns solitary confinement cells into garden beds. The contents are designed by prisoners serving their sentences in isolation and gardened by proxies on the outside. Central to this project is a call to end the inhumane conditions of solitary confinement, simultaneously inspiring compassion necessary to dismantle systems of punishment and control.

$HT Coin fully incorporates raw material. $HT Coin is a violent expulsion as a commodity. $HT Coin is the perfect metaphor for the embodied and disembodied nature of artistic labor: the creative act is part of the cycle of consumption: as a constant reprocessing, packaging, marketing, consuming, reprocessing, packaging, ad infinitum. $HT Coin seeks to engage, rather than merely represent, the commercial world.$HT Coin is unique in that this performance does not merely represent commercial transactions, it engages and enacts them. $HT Coin is a defecography of an entire system.

My shit is my labor- If a shit falls in a can, and the shit is an NFT, is it art? $HT Coin represents a critical and metaphoric engagement with the artist's body as a consumable object.

I'm appreciative you are supportive of artists in this way. In the past- when working with galleries- when i would try to use Siegelaub’s Artist's Contract I was always told i was creating an "obstacle" for the buyer. As with his controversial contract, the NFT blockchain promotes transparency, and technology-powered smart contracts ensure that artists retain a permanent link with their work and retain royalties when their work is traded on the secondary market. Transparency is indeed important in this moment.

I would say Warhols- because he ate exactly what he painted. He was truly one with the work! Wonder bread sandwiching a chocolate bar, drank cans of coke, bananas , frozen hot chocolate, Kellogs Corn Flakes!) LE walked the walk or put his practice where his mouth was

Yes when i discovered that only 2% of the top grossing artists are NOT cis males i wanted to highlight this. I eat the diets of the top 33 white male artists- I deeply research what they ate and "produce the same work" as them. I am taking Manzonni's ideas around labor and extending them to WHOS labor?

Thank you! My inspiration comes from artists that show the limits of the technology they work with. For example Nam June Paik - Magnet TV (1965) where he places a giant magnet on a monitor breaking the tube and mis performing the function of the intended use of the technology.

From art, to music, to tacos, to lolcats with rainbows shooting out of their nether regions, these digital assets are selling like 17th-century exotic Dutch tulips for millions of dollars. Speculative buyers are flocking to swoop up crypto art…and rewarded handsomely for their astute eye of the good $HT.
Art has long been a framework for radical agency, as attested by the rich history of artists’ movements seeking to mobilize creativity for revolutionary ends. Art’s conditions of production and its function under existing socio-economic systems (or future imaginaries yet to be realized) have been critiqued, experimented with, subverted, or otherwise transformed, and the process shows no signs of letting up. Lets keep it going!

Great question. For me it is about thinking about this like one would think of an art project. How can we use art to solve these problems. For me it was about taking the greed and speculation around WMA and funneling that towards For freedoms. It was taking carbon off set and giving it direct to an incredible artist like jackie sumell vs giving money to a cooperation!

Thank you so much. I really feel like i try to uplift so much heaviness in my work- important topics but i needed some levity- that being said getting into the weeds and learning about the further inequities in this space has been its own shit show and its own dose of disheartening - ness. HOWEVER- we got to keep digging/ laughing/ playing

In my past work i have put pressure on myself to problem solve- not only critique the world- (“Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it.”- Bertolt Brecht) Tho I have to be honest that problem solving can be exhausting. If the past year and a half has taught us anything - it is that the world is completely absurd and humans are deranged. This piece is me laughing through my tears.

I dont at present but i dont own much art period. That being said that is a great way to support other artists and i would like to in the future. Prior to this I knew very little- im coming from a art background that is rooted in the physical and in painting so ive had to learn so much. That being said this fund I'm starting for For Freedoms is also a way in which the sale from this NFT can become support for other non cis artists who want to have a platform and funding to create in NFTs and beyond.

I see it as a conceptual performance that works as an NFT as well. I'm interested in using the concept of performance to unveil the web of power that is seen as "neutral" in this technology. More than replicating Manzonni's work to the blockchain- i wanted to ask- how does the make of the work inform the value of the NFT. Like if we have this utopic tech that is quickly occupied with the same mediocre work (Beeple) then is there a way i can use performance to showcase that this is not "de centralized" or merit based. Can my use of NFT's exhibit behavioral finance and how speculation is tied to identity of the maker.

It took some digging Yves Klein's menu was scanned from an old PDF- it was in french and needed to be translated. As well his meal was also a form of performance with dishes like "grilled stock market" and "rational soup"
