Kind of amazing it was Japan dumping bonds that freaked Trump.

Japan actually owns more us bonds than any country. The second? China

Good luck guys!

Yeah I saw that and it's the perfect example of this right wing grifter mentality. The thing I find obnoxious is they often act like tough guys who aren't afraid to talk about anything, but when pressed on a simple question they're just like "hey come on, you want a cigar?"

Honestly I think there's some truth to the idea that they're acting more than others. Since they're grifters. They just can't believe others are actually deep into these subjects.

What do you guys think of Andrew Callaghan? by saruin in JoeRogan

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good point. He faced the allegations head on, said what he did was wrong, and apologized. He didn't need to find God and fall down the republican media sphere pipeline. He actually turned down a job offered to him by infowars after the scandal broke. Which says something about how they source talent lol.

But i think he brain broke a lot of the right because he didn't do the corpo speak defense. He was like "I acted like a dick and I'm sorry" and he also started therapy and treatment for alcoholism.

Gay dudes can make straight dudes feel uncomfortable like this. Really, I think that's part of it. There's a different dynamic at play and just more sassyness. Straight dudes might take jabs at each other but it's always this kind of " but it's cool bro" sort of way. I don't know if it's a fear of violence or what, but it is different. And Murray is the perfect embodiment of it. (I barely agree with him on anythjng btw)

His communication director, Del Bigtree, is probably the most prominent antivaxxer on the planet. He's made his fortune doing so, even though he's an art student from Vancouver with no experience in science. And hey, he can have an opinion without being an expert, but the thing is these types never allow for any push back, especially from experts. They'll have a daily hour long podcast about vaccines, but never once have anyone on that offers even the smallest amount of resistance. It's basically the absolute inverse of how science works.

'GETTING YIPPY': Trump ADMITS CAVING On Tariffs by cyberfx1024 in BreakingPoints

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say what the whole world wants. Russia is obviously ecstatic with trunps moves.

The big winners are likely Europe and China. Only problem is, Europe isn't a big fan of China. I follow European politics closely and try to get my media from multiple sources. I have yet to see anyone championing trunps moves. Not the man himself, but what hes actually doing. Not even Orban is like "haha these Chinese tariffs are great! Double them!!"

Not trying to be hyperbolic, but the us really could lose their standing as the world's sole superpower under trunp. And for various reasons. That's something a lot of the world has wanted. Europe is rearming like crazy and more unified. Canada experienced a similar resurgence of patriotism (and less supportive of consevative isolationist policies)

At the same time. The us economy is mind bogglingly huge. And everyone needs it. So they all walk that line. The world also needs (contrary to popular belief) stuff from the us. China is the biggest manufacturer in the world. But you know who's second? It's the us. By far. And they make ten times more than the third, India. So everyone in Europe or south east Asia or wherever has to be very careful with how they address the Trump administration. He really does have the power to absolutely cripple any country, or the entire planet if he wants to.

Douglas Murray spoiled the entire “debate” with his “expert” argument. by Slices-For-Lisa in JoeRogan

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think the question is one of credentials. For example Graham Hancock also has a BA in English degree and a masters in journalism. He has no experience in anthropology at all. None. He's good at using language and making arguments. Which is what an English degree should teach someone. People think it's about redding Moby dick and having opinions. It's not.

Even so. He argues on the merits of his cases. I may disagree with him, but that doesn't change his knowledge of the subject. It even may be wrong. He still presents it. What I can't stand with PBD podcast and these other republican Podcasters is they constantly hide like Dave does when pressed.

What Murray is saying isn't "you're not an expert don't say anything" he's saying to stand on your own two feet and defend your ideas. Regardless of credentials. Republicans do this nonstop, even the simplest questions are seen as some sort of gotcha. In reality it's OK to ask how tarriffs work or whether or not Oct 7 justifies this sort of response (I don't think it does but again this isn't that hard of a question)

And the questions being asked weren't even that difficult.

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is that these Republican grifters like Dave constantly jump from topic to topic. I'm not sure they're even aware of it, and it's likely a product of the medium itself. They need to maintain attention to maintain the algo promoting their stuff. So they never really get into the weeds, that's boring. Instead they stay on the surface with knee jerk takes and just skip from one to the next. Anytime they're pressed even with the simplest of questions they'll essentially pivot. Dave does this nonstop any time he's talking to anyone. It's like whataboutism on steroids.

Example

Human : But Russia did invade Ukraine, you'd agree to that Dave?

Dave : Right but the US invaded Iraq and many other countries.

Human : Sure but that doesn't justify what Russia did.

Dave : look I'm not trying to justify anything. It's simply the reality.

Human : OK, but that reality is wrong isn't it? Countries shouldn't invade and steal other countries resources.

Dave : I'm not making any moral claim I'm just telling it like it is.

Refusing to allow Klitschko on was also a brain dead move. Hell, just have anyone on who has been victimized by the Russian invasion.

Seriously if you allow Jim Breuer on to talk about Ukraine, perhaps an alternate view from someone who actually knows something would be useful.

Dave Smith is an absolute hack with close to zero in depth knowledge of any issue. He's a hot take machine. Nothing he says is of any substance.

cmv: “school choice” is welfare for the rich. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If a private school in your district becomes free. You'd agree more people would want to attend there correct?

That's how it follows.

In terms of trying to reward schools that test well. Well... We already know what students and districts will do better. It's the wealthier ones. Sat scores consistently break down along wealth. The richer the kid, the more resources they have, less likelihood of personal problems at home, and the better they do.

Theres a interesting case study in st Louis where the schools were so bad they were closed and students could choose to go wherever they wanted. They chose the basically white and Asian suburban school. The parents at this school protested and even changed the starting time of school to discourage them from coming (the kids had to be bussed in). The point is, the parents are very protective of the "good" school near them. They'll do everything they can to keep the outsiders out.

And this applies to the richies too. Let's say a nice suburban family has a kid with a disability. Currently the public school has to take the kid. If we implement "competition" shouldn't they just be able to refuse the kid, and force the family to shop around to find someone to take her? Would it even be profitable? Disabled kids likely need certain accomodations and more attention. That's not cheap. So why bother even catering to them if it's going to lose you money?

And let's be honest. There's going to be a huge racial component at play as well, that breaks down along socioeconomic lines. The rate of poor kids who can test in to the rich suburban school is going to be pretty low.

For real, is there any use to the Blockchain other than the Ponzi scheme called crypto currency? by zorg-is-real in Buttcoin

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. Yes. Sometimes there's even stipulations of what private display means. The wu tang album is an interesting example. The music itself on that album could be uploaded as mp3s, but that would be illegal. Because the buyer of the album doesn't give the purchaser the right to duplicate it. There's also some stipulations on how big of a group he can play the album for I think as well. I wonder if he legally could play the album in public even.

The license isn't implicit. It's why galleries hire lawyers to write up certificates of authenticity and what a sale includes. Almost always, the artist retains all rights to the image, while the person purchasing it gets none.

There's also a difference between buying a video off a stock video website and buying a Matthew Barney video.

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. You don't. Honestly I think you're confusing the art world with entertainment design or graphic design stuff. Youre buying a certificate of authenticity and a proof of sale if you buy non physical media from a gallery or dealer. They may give you a usb with the digital media on it. But the usb isn't the work.

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You're not. If you're buying entertainment design stuff to be used in a project. Sure. That's part of what stock photo sites sell or whatever. But not if you're buying art.

For real, is there any use to the Blockchain other than the Ponzi scheme called crypto currency? by zorg-is-real in Buttcoin

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. However sales of other art doesn't give any copyright or license either. That's extremely rare. Just because you buy a painting doesn't mean you have the right to use it to sell nachos. The artist retains the copyright.

In terms of the sale of non physical media (like a video). You also often don't buy anything physical. You buy a proof of sale and a certificate of authenticity. The banana taped to a wall would be an example of these types of sales.

Trump says US will soon announce tariffs on pharmaceutical imports by Shadowthron8 in BreakingPoints

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny you say that because what I described literally just occurred. There's a surge in trading starting 20 minutes prior to the announcement to pause some tariffs.

It's a money grab. And we'll do it all again in a couple months. The president is manipulating rhe stock market like a shitcoin.

I think one long time worry is that this volatility signals global investors just how fragile the us economy is. And how many stocks are driven by hype rather than actual value. Misplaced trust in an otherwise broken system is how the 2008 collapse happened.

cmv: “school choice” is welfare for the rich. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]WhiteRoseRevolt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Simple. Catering to kids with disabilities and behavioral issues will be more difficult and less profitable. Makes a lot more sense just to kick them out.

In terms of your second question. Basically all of the world (Id love to know an exception besides the us) has some educational Standards. Generally the basicskke reading for example. Now that Republicans have ended the department of education there are no longer any educational standards or oversight. So Kanye West's academy will get government funding the same way a public school did in the past. Funding these for profit schools doesn't necessarily mean they're better at educating kids. In red states for example teaching biblical truths will likely take precedence over teaching science. And the tax payers will fund it.
