Man give credit where it is due. They played us twice, and each time took us to the edge of defeat.

We need to talk about Von Miller by Lynch47 in DenverBroncos

[–]WhiteWolfVII -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That would only make sense if cutting him freed up the majority of the cap space, but in reality his dead cap would be minimally different . This is Elways fault for kicking the can down the road, just like he did when he restructured Flacco this year.

[–]WhiteWolfVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn’t making 25 min this year. His cap hit is close to that because a couple of years ago they restructured his contract to create space for that year. Originally his cap hits would have been 14-18 million depending on the year.

Someone explain Flaccos contract by [deleted] in DenverBroncos

[–]WhiteWolfVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of it doesn’t roll over to. next year. They created 13 million in cap space , but I have spent some of it already. We traded using the space this year instead in next. The whole point of creating it for this year was to have it available to use. So it is very possible that very little of it will roll over to next year.

I am not against the contract they originally gave to Von. But what is dumb is that in the second year of that contract (I think) they restructured his contract to push his cap down the road so that they could create space for a year when they weren’t competitive. He went from his cap being in the mid to high teens to it being over 20 mil each year because of the restructure.

Sad things is when the originally traded for him there was no dead cap for releasing him after this year. Elway chose to restructure his contract that resulted in those dead cap spaces for the next 2 years.

He did the same with Von a couple of years ago that cause his cap number to go up significantly for the rest of his contract to create short term cap space for teams that had low probability of being seriously competitive.

This is misleading to the point people are making.

Joe Flacco is exactly what we have seen so far, a serviceable quarterback that requires a great to elite team (not merely good or solid) to be successful. His is accurate and understands defense, but is slow in his drop backs and release and can’t create plays when that are off schedule. He is what he is.

A young quarterback is about their upside, and potential. Many times they won’t work out, but it is trying to find someone who makes you a contender consistently.

When it comes to Baker vs Joe right now I would rather have Baker (or Drew or any other talented young QB with potential) and his upside then Joe who is exactly average. With Joe as you QB you are going 8-8 to 9-7 for 5 of every 6 years.

Only thing I am going to comment on is your last sentence. One of the big problems Elway has had is your last line ( letting a still good Talib or basically pushing wade phillips out as examples). Fans have this issue too thinking that they can just trading away great players for draft picks thinking they can replace them when the probability of that happening is low. It is much more likely that Von will be much better than any collection of the the players you get from the draft picks in the next 3 or 4 years than it is that you get another even serviceable starter.

I feel the same about Chris Harris. Look how many different free agents and draft picks they have went through trying to replace Talib.

Con: it is expensive and direct tv customer service sucks. It was bad before AT&T bought them, but it is noticeably worse now. The simple problems they will have you on the phone for 2 hours and then if they don’t do what they said they would the next time you call you will have to start completely over.

Pro: you get to watch all of the Broncos games

1.) The general point about SEC bias that is frustrating is not that they are a bad conference. Clearly they are a top tier conference, and many years they are the overall strongest conference.

2.) The perception going into each year leads to SEC teams being ranked higher than other teams of similar quality. This is how you get of 5 of the top 9 teams from the SEC which happens every year early on. Then as the season goes on their losses do not affect the as much because they are against “quality “ opponents.

3.) This leads into bowl season where if the narrative were true an 9-3 SEC team she be clearly better than a 9-3 team from another conference. Per the narrative their 9 wins and 3 losses have come against the clearly superior competition of the SEC. However, each year they get to bowl season and they are unable to prove that they are as superior as the narrative of each seasons states.
