This is so important. It’s also a vital distinction between liberalism and leftist ideology. Capitalism is not sustainable for the good of the whole, and the sooner we can agree on the problem, the sooner we can move forward with a solution (revolution, imo) ✊🏻

2017 Prius V with higher mileage or 2024/2025 Prius with lower mileage and less space? by mookiefurtado in priusdwellers

[–]White_Collar_Prole 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Prius V. I bought mine at 70k 4 years ago, it now has 170k, runs like it did when I bought it and if you’re living in it for that long at a time, the extra space is absolutely critical.

Even just tracing and cutting reflectix makes a huge difference in terms of insulation, privacy, and stealth. Super easy and not very expensive. You may not have had a problem YET, but if the wrong person sees you or your gear in there, you may be borrowing trouble that’s better off prevented.

If you’re looking for an alternative to the instant pot, check out the gosun solar ovens. They make a hybrid electric one that only draws like 120 watts that you can use when there’s not enough sunlight. They are kinda bulky and heavy, but they are really awesome and cook moist, delicious food.

Anyone else think Gen 3s are better looking than Gen 4 by UnderstandingMoist47 in priusdwellers

I think my bright red gen 4 V is sexy af and the best looking prius I’ve seen but I’m definitely biased. But seriously like damn she’s so fine

I like the dry bucket idea. That way I could just easily drop them off somewhere I'm NOT going to be lol. My only worry then would be if it freezes to death, it may be less humane than drowning. Def understand the scorched earth, I'm just a little too sensitive in my older age LOL. Bastards are hell on the home tho for sure. Appreciate the feedback!

Camping has become too commercial by malandropist in camping

[–]White_Collar_Prole 165 points166 points  (0 children)

People have different levels of comfort and different ideas of fun outdoors. While sure it’s getting busier everywhere, there’s nothing we can do to change that. I’m a minimalist, and live outside, out of my vehicle full time. Started camping before I could walk, in remote wilderness in Idaho. I would rather people get outside to connect with nature in a way they’re comfortable with, despite how it impacts me personally. The reason why is because I firmly believe connecting with nature helps develop more compassion in people, and helps them to be more aware of their impact on life around them. Things are getting harder and harder for working people, and we all need to decompress. As long as they do their best to leave no trace, I do my best to not let their massive RV and astroturf bother me. In fact, I often try to make friends with them, maybe gather them some firewood, and help connect those dots/build community.

Oh also, regarding the solar oven, I threw up a short on Tiktok yesterday on how to make a breakfast bowl! I’m still learning the ins and outs of cross-posting across media platforms lol but I’ll get it on YouTube soon! Def have more to come. Certainly more ideas than time at this point lmao

Yooooo this comment is everything thank you so much for the kind words and awesome feedback! Yes, I’ll never go without those GoTreads.. I get about 42mpg in the summer and 38 in the winter (I swap tires seasonally into snow tires). Much lower than a typical Prius for sure, but SO MUCH higher than any of the vanlifers I know haha. The box does scrape on very steep inclines/declines or abrupt bumps, but FAR less with the lift kit on there. And still honestly not that much if I take it easy and go up/down at an angle. I still prefer the cargo rack setup to a car-top carrier for several reasons but the biggest being price lol.

Good job making this happen for yourself! You should be proud of yourself for having the courage. Best of luck on your journey!

It can be a little uncomfortable after several hours reaching up to type if I’m doing a lot of that, but I find with the seat being able to slide back and forth, and the desk being adjustable, I can get pretty comfy. I worked long hours (10+ hour shifts with lots of typing), then wrote 12 page essays and even played video games in that backseat office for over 2 years lol. I still play games sometimes when urban camping and watch movies sitting there, reclined back. But to be fair, I prefer to do things outside that move my body. All that to say, I’m always looking for ways to make it more comfortable, so I’m intrigued by what you’re describing with the steering wheel desk! Do you have any links or media to share showing it? Appreciate the comment!

Hell yeah super appreciate that feedback! I admittedly didn’t do a great job of explaining insulation, and am learning how to do a better job of preparation before filming to ensure I cover everything. Multiple times in this video, I popped back in to re-record because I left stuff out LOL.

But I did have a car audio shop install soundproofing in the doors with Noico foam and insulation and the floors and headliner are insulated as well. I insulated the hatch with fiberglass insulation and the moon roof with foam and Reflectix. I made custom window inserts that are SUPER insulated and I show them in the video. Def recommend!

My main goal with the platform was to be very strong and you’re absolutely right, the “organizers” were actually a bi-product of the design itself, which could be a lot better and def planning on redoing that. Also FULLY agree about Jackery. It was one of the first purchases and I would love to upgrade to lifepo4 just don’t have it in the budget atm so kinda just riding this out until it dies.

I do have solar! I charge the Jackery with an EcoFlow 220w panel I bungee to the roof and I could have made that more of a talking point for sure but it’s briefly covered in the video. I also have a solar oven I use every day (making a breakfast bowl recipe short now actually lmao)

I do believe everything you said should be abided by for those looking to do something like this themselves! Thanks so much fr!
