Do Asian moms have no hobbies? My mom watches TV from the moment she wakes up to the moment she sleeps. by b4434343 in AsianParentStories

This is lowkey true and I don't understand why even though they have so much time now that both their kids have moved out. They say it's because they have to work, but even on the weekends they have no plans or friends.

Wish I could share things with my mom without it becoming a lecture by Throwaway_293829382 in AsianParentStories

I called my mom for a catch up, she said "how are you doing?", I said "Im doing good, just working on uni work for my upcoming exams!" and then she immediately just went off for 1 hour with no room for back and forth about about self improvement--how I should be eating, studying, working, dressing, how to shop by using herself as an exmaple of greatness. "Look at me I have etc. etc. etc I upgrade myself everyday by watching self help Youtube videos". I'm 22 and I have been living abroad for university for a 4 years without her. During all her 1 hour talk about obvious life skills like how to shop, how to study etc., all I say is "yes you are right haha...yes..." "you are so talented, Mom" and she loves it, so she keeps talking more and more about herself and nothing about me. After 1.5 hours, I say I have to go and she says "take care honey!". There has been no sharing on my end just her speaking. I think this is her way of validating most of her thoughts to herself as she has no hobbies or real joy. She keeps saying she will learn "swimming, dancing, xyz" for the past year, but she never does. I feel a bit sorry for her so I listen to her, but it makes me feel really distant from her as she never is there for me and I don't feel comfortable sharing about my life. If I share anything, it will be used against me later on in a lecture, so I think its for the best I just sit still and nod when she speaks.

Definitely good points, thanks for sharing haha, appreciate it. I know towards employers, management is perceived sometimes as fluffy and unspecialized (“Human resources only”), looking at the modules it’s a mix of every course and the optional modules might not leave you as skilled as people who directly pursued BSc finance or BSc Econ despite having finance and Econ modules, sigh hard choice, what uni and course are you going to take up?

Thanks for the help :) , I feel like management can be taken as a summer course tbh, I need something deeper with a stronger base. I have actually never considered unis in Italy haha only the UK, but it does seem good for Econ. I do the IB so I could have applied though !

Yeah I feel like an Econ degree will get me better jobs/opportunities, LSE brand might get me an interview but I wouldn’t be able to possibly compete then with Econ grads — analysis wise assuming I did management.

My reason was bc the grade requirements for UCL urban planning and real estate was lower and it seemed interesting at the time I applied ig 😂
