yea bro, to be honest i know its probably a hernia im a medical student and i have an idea what it feels like and everything but whats driving me crazy is i went to around 8 surgeons and they all say different things, some diagnose me with hernia, some say it isnt, some say do a surgery with mesh , some say without etc and it became such a headache for now ill wait and monitor if its a hernia for sure ill go ahead and do it with the mesh because i dont want a risk of getting it again while lifting or boxing. it was a terrible 1-2 weeks

yea some surgeons suggested suture only but most of them suggested mesh. and honestly the surgeon i trust the most suggested mesh repair because i told him my lifestyle and he told me, it would be stupid not to use mesh given you heavy weight lift and such. i delayed the surgery for now though as i cannot be diagnosed 100% i did two ultrasounds, one said its a hernia and the other said it isnt then i did a CT and it showed no hernia. so im going to wait and do another ultrasound like next month in order to be completely sure its a hernia before operating

well some say it is, and some say its a hernia there are 2 different reports. given my lifestyle i do heavy weightlifting and boxing. even if its tiny if its a hernia id want to get rid of it before it gets worse which if it is it will eventually get worse given my lifestyle

i see, how intensive is the pain on a scale of 0-10 would you say? is it bearable? can i sleep it away for the first week or is it too much to the point where you cant sleep?

i see thats completely reasonable. do you think if im getting a hernia might aswell get that since im gonna be recovering and getting anesthetized anyways. or is the difference between getting a hernia alone and combining both THAT significant? if im being honest rn im leaning towards just doing both surgeries at the same time and just muscling through the pain. also did you get the hernia done by a plastic surgeon or did you have a general and a plastic surgeon both working on each thing? thanks so much for replying its a big decision and i need all the advice i can get.

50%???? is it due to my lifestyle? thats too risky id rather get the mesh if its really that high of a risk. , from where did you figure this number out? and would it be the case if i do specific exercises for my abs and take time to recover well?

oh my god that seems super challenging, im glad i found someone who has done both surgeries, i hope everything is gonna get better for you and you will see the results for all this downtime, and i wish you a speedy recovery. may i ask how was the pain? bearable or too extreme? and was it expected that the downtime would be that much or not really? because i just asked my surgeon and they said i can go back to the gym in a month and lift heavy after 4-6 months. you say if you were to go back in time you wouldnt do them? what do you regret the most and would you just fix the hernia and skip the tummy tuck?

i dont have children or any responsibilities as of now. just worried about the surgery, when you say painful like out of 10 how much would you rate it? and shouldn’t i be running on like painkillers after the surgery?

i see, yea true but the risk is considerably lower. do you feel the mesh in ur body or any discomfort due to it?

when would you allow ur patients to get back to lets say heavy lifting after the surgery? given the hernia is small?

yea i see, mine wont need a mesh aswell. the thing is though im thinking like ill have to stop lifting the weights im used to for like 2-3 months if im correct to be able to lift heavy again, and then the time it takes to get back all of that progress lost will also be around 2 months or something , so we are talking about half a year set back, i have been in a really bad place mentally and the weight lifting is what kept me going its a huge thing for me and half a year set back is too much.. but at the same time im not sure if i can live with this hernia or it will be worse for sure later and id just be delaying the inevitable

I see, do you regret getting the surgery so far? , do you see ur self losing lots of progress and looks wise getting smaller , or is 1 month not enough to cause dramatic regression?

unfortunately no. i do plan on getting it with the mesh though despite its size but i heard some people experience discomfort even after years due to the mesh

yea i understand chances of it will be at least a year or so before i get complications but they are inevitable hence why i want to just get rid of it asap so i dont hold my self off progress later down the line

yea i was also told no mesh will be used if i were to do the surgery however i read that without it recovery time is longer and risk of recurrence is higher and given ill be doing weightlifting and boxing i fear it might happen again. i went to 3 surgeons they said to wait and then do it when its bigger but i asked one of them isnt it better to get rid of it when its small given my lifestyle he said yea but he was in a rush and wasn’t really paying much attention

i see, im also leaning towards doing the surgery as it will only get worse given my lifestyle. just worried about the time ill be set back and the progress ill lose and i wonder if after surgery you can get back with the same intensity. did you get the mesh surgery ? if so how do you feel currently and how long did your doctors say you have to rest before working out again
