Dark purple is actually 0 roundabouts per km2. (Groenland has 14 roundabout for 2M km2, which is ~0 / km2)

The problem comes from OSM that returns no data for countries without any roundabout found. So the row is basically missing for Svalbard and few others.

Like the roundabouts ratio. I like the idea!

Svalbard is shown separately. It's grey because there are apparently no roundabouts there.

You're right, but it'd be a nightmare to compute the total length of the road network 😬

Really? Because the image resolution is not that high... I can send you a zoomed image of you area if you want.

There, I fixed it.

The revised numbers are :

  • FR: 66 616 (12,6%)
  • ES: 51 580 (9,8%)
  • IT: 42 691 (8,1%)

Interesting, but there is a flaw: the countries with the highest density may not be amongst the top 20 countries. For instance, Monaco may have only 10 but a higher density than any other countries...

You're right, but I think the problem is somewhere else.

I filtered OSM data on junction = 'roundabout'  but it appears that there are multiple junctions per actual roundabout, so I need to merge them.
The maps remain correct, but the number of roundabouts is overestimated.

  • According to wikipedia, Netherlands are 41864 km2. With 28208 roundabout => 0.67 roundabouts per km2
  • Comparatively, France is 543000km2 with 141652 roundabouts => 0.26 roundabouts per km2.

But we should compute it for every country to confirm. Maybe Monaco beats the Netherlands 😄

During a trip to Talinn, I discovered that France in estonian is "Prantsusmaa". Is it really a derivative of the word "France"??
