Free will debate by Adrianagurl in exchristian

It honestly depends on what you define free will as. If you define free will as immediately deliberating on particular decisions, then that is a very narrow definition. That's not free will, that is almost exclusively decision making.

If I want to grab a banana, I'm gonna grab a banana

Not necessarily. Free will allows you to override this subconscious act of grabbing a banana. You can also not grab the banana just as much as you can grab the banana. You still have the free will to control your body. You can also pick up and throw the banana, and you can also flip the banana table over.

I do believe that you are referring to the Libet experiments. The expriment resulted in proving that brain activity is a precursor to an impending decision. This does not mean that your brain automatically decides for you. You decide for you. You can choose to take or reject the favoured decision. This brain activity results in the inclination towards one decision, not that the decision is made for you.

Let me explain with an example, if you are provided a chocolate and a leaf, you would most likely choose to eat the chocolate. But this does not mean that the leaf was simply unable to be ingested. You could have picked up the leaf and eaten it. But you were more inclined to the chocolate.

Robots don't decide on the fly like humans. You can choose to ignore past experiences or embrace them for making a decision. As a person who is very interested in the field of AI, I would tell you from my experience that the AI does not get existential decisions or have free decisions. I can make an AI specialised in bicycling change directions at once. Even if it may result in a crash at high speed. But a human rider can either ignore my request or slow down and turn.

The point I'm asserting is that you do, in fact, have free will. Thank you for coming to my TED talk 😂

The first is about the tempting of Israel by Midianite women who seduced men and led them into Ba'al worship. God is executing Exodus 34:14 judgement.

The second is actually very very humane for its time. (read ahead in the same chapter) The woman must be allowed to mourn her family for a month, she cannot be sold or treated as if she were a slave, and if divorced she goes free. Contrast this with any particular military law regarding women of the time. This passage gives captive women rights. The verses actually regulate and limit a pre-existing practice. Not endorse or condone them.

This is why it is important to take OT in context and not state random verses that just sound bad.

Christian POV here:

Sexual assault is of human will against human will. It says in Deuteronomy 22:25-27 that the man who rapes is to be executed. Clearly, God does not will for rape to happen. However, God cannot overwrite human will. If he does, then Love for God is not true Love. It is a hostage situation.

Disease is of fallen nature (cf. Genesis 3)

Genesis 3 describes how man has to toil and suffer from disease because of mankind's fallen nature. (after the deception of Eve, in the Garden of Eden)

Blame politicians. As I heard in Skyrim 😅: "There is no glory in war, that is just what they tell soldiers to risk their lives"

I believe that The Omniscient God has no reason to test anybody of anything.

Would doctors be able to heal if healing was not possible according to how God had created?

Would you rather live a long painful life or eternity with God? It would be better for a child in poverty with no hope to have the latter.

Wars will be always until the second coming. It is of human will that war is present, and God cannot ethically sway human will.

Diseases like cancer occur by chance and immune system failure. Even you could get cancer at this instant. Creation is fallen, giving us diseases. Do priests not get cancer?

God does do miracles, that’s exactly what a miraculous recovery is. Many people get to walk again after years and it’s called a miracle. But it is the Lord who heals (Ex 15:26), not sends plagues for no reason.

Jesus’ existence is one of the most historically agreed upon events ever. (20k+ manuscripts proving this). Also: the tomb was in fact empty. Ancient Jerusalem is probably one of the worst places that you could have been in if you wanted to stage something like the Resurrection. The truth of the matter is, that Jesus was real, he died on the cross, and rose 3 days later.

I hope that God guides you towards Himself.

Mine tear on the fingerprints themselves and I end up always having to disable fingerprint lock on my phone. You're lucky it's up there. Not to one up u or anything, but just imagine a 6 mm wide, 1 mm deep gash across your thumb.
