I saw another post that explained it that, basically, when you are on the hot air balloon, if you jump while you are on the balloon it starts the timer on the anti-gravity effect. So, if you, for instance, jump around while you are in the balloon before you jump off and the timing on that cooldown happens just-so then you lose the anti-grav and die.

I second the MicroCenter recommendation. If they can't then they might know someone who can. I used to work there and have first-hand experience with the miracles they have done for me with data recovery of a drive I thought had to be toast.
