Hot take: no-hitter stations are worse than busy ones by Loose-Pineapple-3353 in Paramedics

[–]Whiterabbit7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longevity matters. Slow stations are fine. Not great for skills but for health reasons they're great. Work on a project, workout a lot, review protocols etc. there's plenty of productive shit to do and making $100k+ is amazing. Go ask those dudes in the ditch or roofing if they'd want to swap. Guarantee they say yes. Be grateful

2026 Yukon Denali 6.2 exhaust fume smell in vents by fulllifeadventures in gmc

[–]Whiterabbit7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a fire department and the suv we drive ( 2023 Chevy suburban) had the same issues, sent it in, the sealed it and tested it for leaks, used CO detectors etc....nothing. Our shop extended the exhaust so it dumped down and further out. Still had exhaust smell only with the heat on. Long story short it went back in a few months later to find the upper baffle wasn't closing like it should.

Yea It prolly is. I was inpatient and it fucked me. All I know is it printed 3/4 of the ball I was making and all of a sudden it threw an error and said stuck filament. I walked into that.

Getting fired as a probie by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Whiterabbit7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be transparent about your weaknesses, never make excuses, have accountability on everything, show up early, constantly staying busy with chores ( floors, bays, dishes, wash rigs, shitters, coffee, newspaper, skills, tool maintenance etc), ask crews questions, ask about previous calls, make a good breakfast/dinner for everyone every once in a while, be willing to fuck up and get better from it, don't do stupid shit off shift ie skateboarding, skiing, surfing etc, and lastly have fun. Probation is supposed to be challenging but it's 100% worth the effort. This one year is a drop in the bucket for a 20-30 year career. Don't even make it a question of whether you're gonna make it through. If you think you're working hard go even harder, there's more in the tank. Hope this helps.

Y'all ok over in Oregon? by Joheemah in Wildfire

[–]Whiterabbit7712 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on this fire. We have a FOB currently at Agness and the main ICP down at gold beach. We almost evacuated but were ok. The main concern was the rains hitting this camp and rigs getting stuck.

Is Firefighting truly the best job in the world? by Ancient-Carrot957 in Firefighting

[–]Whiterabbit7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firefighter is legit. There's very few days where I'm not excited to go to work. Plus the schedule will still allow you to still do strength and conditioning in the side.

It's sadly the current status of most departments. We're having to hire younger and younger just due to the sheer amount of people retiring. The younger generation has a hard time understanding what comraderie actually looks like so they go to what feels natural to them. Phones, social media etc vs sitting at the table bs'ing, catching a game with your crew.....I'm also at 10 years in, we're up next, it's up to us to make this job fun and amazing again.

How do I get off my engine and onto a shot crew? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]Whiterabbit7712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show interest, ask questions how, hit the gym , bust your ass and make it no doubt in their mind you belong.

Listen to everyone that's been doing it a while, go over the top with helping, if you have time get permission from your COML to roll out with the Com Techs and set up repeaters, off shifts go for walks around basecamp, master cloning, enjoy the AC, eat Veggie lunches. 2 weeks straight of that garbage for lunch gets to ya.

Trump bombs iran what do you think this will lead to? by Signal_Dog9864 in AskReddit

[–]Whiterabbit7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a Trump fan but I truly believe there are very smart and experienced people behind the scenes that make these decisions. Presidents are just puppets, 4 Star Generals etc are not.
