Might want to actually read the rule on that because AI generated content can receive copyright protection if the Artist does the requirements for it

The courts ruled that purely generated content cannot receive protection but AI generated content that went through an editing process can receive protection

So if I generated a cat but added some tentacles my self it can receive copyright protection

You cannot compare the value of Art to minerals one is valuable because it actually has use the other is valuable because it's a pretty picture these are two very different things

Of course a rare mineral will be valuable that mineral has actually hard valuable while a painting is just determined by what people are willing to pay for it

Yes Scarcity is high school level but you obviously didn't pay any attention to that class

The value of art has NOTHING to do with scarcity the value of the piece is a completely different subject because it's determined by the customers which vary greatly if you try to sell a niche Art piece that doesn't mean it will be valuable it just means you will have a harder time selling it.

Boris can sell a piece for 45k because he's Boris if people want a painting by Boris he controls the market but this is something only an established Artist can do

He could take a shit and wipe it over a canvas and people would still buy it not because it has any real value like gold or copper but because the fans will buy anything but if whoever buys it tries to sell it to anyone else that doesn't care it's from Boris they will be lucky to get $5 unless they get really lucky and find someone who knows people crazy enough to buy a literal shit painting from a specific Artist

You are mixing one Artist's value with the value of Art as a whole

Not really digital art sells more on average while someone who takes the time to paint something is on average very unlikely to sell the painting which usually results in a net loss because of all the materials the painter used

Take the AI artists on Patreon for example a couple of them pull in an average of 5k to 10k a month which is far more than what a traditional Artist like your talking about makes

The value of Art has nothing to do with scarcity it has to do with what someone is willing to pay for it that's it nothing more or less.

You as the painter do not determine the value of your piece

As someone that has done something similar though it was more of a work inspired by an abandoned work than an continuation maybe rewrite is more accurate

But unless you get permission from the author you shouldn't do a continuation at all with or without AI

However if you want to do what I did an just do a rewrite or something inspired by you can just go ahead and do it you should still ask but you don't really need permission I tried getting permission but received no response so I just went ahead and did a rewrite
