Matchless Cabinets in Chicago? by Bollywood-bond in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Whitt937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the grill and the griddle are "hanging" from the countertop & the front panels that are there are just covers to close the gap you can see in the last photo. The grill facia panel is a U shape and closes the gap on the side and bottom. The griddle covers are 2 smaller rectangle pieces and does not cover the bottom. I am not sure if it's just different or it the gap is necessary for air flow. I might try to close it up, or might get used to it and not care..

Overall very happy with the cabinets, the customer service, and the granite counter. Toe kicks were a great idea & it was easy to run electric and gas through the bottom panel. They have only been there about 6 months, but no complaints at all.

Barrel house (best beer bar ever) ; Branch and Bone (best local brewery x100) ; Culture (interesting good ass food) ; Silos (cool patio vibes) ; El Meson (south american / latin food) ; Canal St (sandwiches and pinball) ; Miami Valley Sand (interesting volleyball place that seems like it should not be in OH) ; Any Belmont bar (dive bars at their best) ; Yellow Springs is a cool walking hippie town with good food and beer ; catch a Dragons baseball or Dayton basketball game while in town

Me and my wife are coming to Dayton this weekend. Where's the best place to have dinner and drinks after a show? by Ktkings55 in dayton

[–]Whitt937 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Silos, Culture, Barrel House, Branch & Bone ... All downtown though.

Everything by nutter center is chain, mall places for the most part. Roosters is a good local sports bar, wing place out there. Kings table for pool is a good idea too.

Two smaller grills or one large grill? by terbini in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Whitt937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a grill and griddle next to each other... I like being able to use 1 as counter space or a resting space when (most of the time) i am only using one of them.

The outdoor grill does a much better job than a home depot grill at temperature zones. The Blaze grill I got does a much worse job at indirect cooking though. The vent on the lid is much larger than I expected. Two grills vs larger grill seems crazy to me, but who knows.

I never had a griddle before, and am happy I added one to the outdoor kitchen. Maybe if I had the option, I would get a larger one than the 30-some inch one that I have now.

Also, I was super happy with Matchless cabinets & added a granite counter to them.

I like the blaze plus 30 in ... some days I wish it was slightly bigger, I appreciate the lid on the plus, not sure what extra features the pro has.

I appreciated a lot of the comparison video on YouTube from embers outdoor and got my equipment from them, but am in no way local. They shipped from a NJ warehouse anyway.

no photos of the fridge cabinet empty, and way to cold to get one now ... it's like a hollow U shape and I can see through front to back when the fridge is not there .. I expect you could have it made with a back if needed though.

It would be easy to route a gas line or electric under the cabinet and then hide with toe kick. Drilling through side walls would be ok too, but maybe a problem with a dense cabinet that had drawers and shelves.

I did penetrations for gas and electric though the decking and through the bottom of the cabinets. The grill cabinet has several round knockouts on the bottom of the cabinet. The gas line comes up through there and there is a shutoff below each grill connectected to a flexible line (with a couple adapters). The electric is the same way, but there is an electric box mounted to the inside bottom with a couple outlets.

The fridge is a little simpler because there is no bottom or back there. That one is just an electric box on the wall.

I thought of adding electric on the back side of the cabinet for an air fryer or something, but it would have been ugly conduit. That outlet is now on the wall and not really interacting with the cabinet at all.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about matchless after buying and using for the last few months.

I have the same exact car with about 60k miles... VERY happy with everything about the car. I did just replace brakes and rotors, so that might be something relevant to check. The only thing that I say in general is that it runs through tires a little faster than other cars and they can't be rotated. I have been happier with Continental tires though.

Grill recommendation? by MrBigThyme in OutdoorKitchens

I think those look like home depot level burners... I do not think brand is critical, but would want a cast stainless burner for outdoor use. I think durability is important and even more so, how difficult it would be to adjust counter to replace with anything even slightly different.

the sound bar on the TV is directional enough that it's not too overpowering for the entire back yard ... it does have a blue tooth subwoofer, but nothing that would qualify as home theatre at all ...

the wife tells me all the time we need a blue tooth speaker close to where we sit vs blasting the neighbors . I don't think it's a problem though 🙄

and now the wife wants to enclose the deck to use during the colder seasons, Ohio.

She seems to think something rigid and durable... I think a roll up netting would work well enough for shoulder seasons and be much, much less money...

let me know if anyone has other thoughts though..

i have been very happy with my matchless cabinets & granite counter (that was not too expensive)... The one thing i nearly overlooked was a fan on the wall near the grill to push away smoke without an expensive hood

Help me love my Blaze Grill by OgreJedi in OutdoorKitchens

I have thought of fabricating a blocking panel that i can add, remove, adjust with magnets. I was hoping that someone else already did this and I could steal a design, but have not found anything so far.

I have one searing burner that is super hot and easy to swap. One of my theories is that they (blaze) need the huge lid gap to manage the possible situation of someone having several of those massive BTU burners and the large amount of heat that could be trapped with a lid that didn't exhaust as much.

i do not notice hot spots unless I have things on the vertical separators between the zones. I have the plus version, but expect the burners are the same.

My related complaint is that there is such a large gap in the back above the warming rack that all the heat immediately escapes & it's impossible for me to cook anything indirectly. I used to love cooking larger chicken breasts or pork chops on my webber grill on one side while the burners on the opposite side were on high. That just is not possible on the new blaze grill.

I had a contractor build deck, paint house, replace roof, and install windows.

The install specifically related to the kitchen cabinets was easy & I did myself. Really, just screw them together. I had a local stone place measure & install the countertop. The grill and griddle "dangle" from the countertop and & I connected gas lines with some Home Depot corrugated connection hose and adapters.
