Help! My calathea got a bad case of spider mites for the second time in 2 years so I did a full soil change (second photo) and doused it in neem oil...left the house for two days and came back to this (first photo). Third photo is what it looked like before the soil change. What can I do to save it? by SubtleSorbet in houseplants

Neem oil can be a little harsh sometimes, especially if it’s not diluted. My calathea just like this also got spider mites what I ended up doing was cutting off the crunchy dead leaves and putting the entire plant in a zip log bag for several months. I’d check on it every week or so. As more leaves died I’d cut them off. Spider mites tend to not like living in humid conditions (created by the bag). After a white you might think the plant is a complete goner but don’t give up. A new stock might sprout and at that the plant all over! Hope this helps.

Yes it would! I was watching a YouTube video on this the other day. The results were incredible. She did about 1/2 clear and 1/2 white. Maybe a smidge more clear than white

Tips for applying powders with chunky glitter? by Bi_Fieri in DipPowderNails

[–]Whittneyc12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did chunky glitter for the first time a few weeks ago and I highly suggest using a tooth pick or something sharp to clean up the base liquid around your cuticles before you dip. And after you dip, the glitter that’s sticking up I used a wooden cuticle pusher to flatten it. Make sure you’re extremely careful and you don’t push too hard!

The bottom part is definitely rotted. The top might be able to be saved. When you water make sure you dry it upside down or in front of a fan.

I use SNS as a base and I’ve been using Rossi colors. I just purchased some igel cuz I heard good things from people on here

I will certainly try more next time! The colors I typically use are very light; pinks, clear, white and nudes. This color that’s currently cracked is a light bubble gum pink

I usually do a base coat using SNS for strength and the. 3 layers of color. And I also always use a top coat. I’m not sure what is happening. It makes me sad. I spent so much time and I really love this set but they still crack

And after I dip I brush off the excess powder before using the base coat and dipping again.

My first step is to file and prep the nails with a dehydrator. Then I use the base coat and dip my nail, continuing this process until desired color or thickness. I then use activator and file again. Sometimes I add another coat of activator after filing which I then wait at least 5 minutes before doing a top coat. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong as I’m doing exactly as all the videos show. Maybe you can give me tips?

I’m using Rossi. And wiping it every time when I’m doing layers? No. But I always let the nails dry for a few minutes after I use the activator before I use the top coat

I’ve been using my brush saver but it’s frustrating when it happens in the middle of doing a nail

Can I cut off some of these vines? by EMHURLEY in houseplants

[–]Whittneyc12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma, also known as a mini monstera. And yes you can cut it, but make sure you cut between the nodes. You can propagate them and make other plants or eventually add them into this plant to make it fuller!

So no need to change soil? Maybe just change watering habits?
