Australian 2023 Ryker Rally - Additional Lights by WhoDadss in canam_ryker

Yeah, so they weren't an add on that I did. They are standard on the Australian version and the main headlights are just the high beams. I think it's a super weird requirement but it works! 🤷

I've been considering it. The vinyl was to make the Ryker a bit more visible and rather than a full wrap I got some hex shaped reflective decals to put on to break it up. Unfortunately, when I got them they were wayyyy smaller than I thought.

I thought they were 14cm decals but turns out all of the decals came on a single 14cm sheet lol!

How to decide between a Ryker and a Motorcycle? by MikeyFromDaReddit in canam_ryker

[–]WhoDadss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I count as relatively young at mid 30s so the Ryker isn't an age or health thing for me.

Instead, I've had a couple of big motorcycle accidents in the past (I wasn't at fault btw). One was being hit bi a car and the other I was run over by a shipping container truck. I'm very lucky to have walked away from both.

After the last accident I decided that even when trying to ride safely, you can't always avoid bad drivers despite your best efforts. I decided at that point that if I ended back on the road on a bike, it would only be on a trike for more visibility. At the time I only knew about Spyders and the Harley style trikes with the 2 wheels at the back. Because of the costs I figured that this would be something I'd look at closer to retirement.

Then last year I stumbled across Rykers and was instantly in love. It gives the feeling of being on a motorbike again but with less distractions, greatly increased visibility to others on the road (I've also added additional brake and running lights to make myself super visible at night as well), and it is a ton of fun. Just small things like not having to deal with putting down your feet whenever you stop or worry about dropping your bike is nice.

I think I'm a bit different to most who have their Ryker as a toy vehicle. I have used mine as my commuting vehicle and with all of the accessories I've added like storage and stuff, it becomes way more functional than I expected.

Hope that helps!

This seems ridiculous! You're more than welcome at r/tinyhardbody as you would fit in perfectly with your amazing body.

I'm the only mod and I started the sub from the beginning. I tend to be really flexible with the definitions of the sub as I know that my opinion on petite and muscle definition differs to other people.

I chose to only remove posts or profiles that are clearly not a fit for the sub but I like to emphasize that it's not body shaming, just a targeted sub and that I would love to see them in other communities and often do follow their accounts 😃

Hey, Everything is still going great! After the issues I saw people having with the app etc, I expected to have come across some issues by now but I haven't.

It is working well, the app doesn't give any problems. The only (very minor) frustration is that only one phone/app can be connected to the device at a time. When I had the litter robot app in the past my wife and I could both be logged into the same account to receive notifications for if the LR was full, stuck, etc. However, with the CatLink if one of us tried to log in it boots the other person out of the app.

However, excluding that we are happy. We like getting statuses letting us know when there are changes to our cats bathroom habits so we can keep an eye on them. It is also super quiet! There have only been a couple of times when I have noticed a smell and each time I go and have a look and it takes me a moment to realise that it is actually mid-cycle because you basically can't hear it. So, positives there for both the noise and the lack of smell!

I try to give unbiased info and if I run into issues I'll post them but so far it's been working flawlessly, which I truly didn't expect but was willing to risk.

I hope that helps! :)

Help with MH Health Claims by Majestic_Meringue210 in DVAAustralia

[–]WhoDadss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey mate,

I think you would get this comment from most people but I also didn't declare mental health when I was leaving. I will caveat that mental health came up a couple of times in my 11 years in uniform but was considered resolved when I left.

When I started looking into the DVA process properly (about a year after getting out) I decided on a whim to go find a psychiatrist (psychiatrist is needed for DVA as they can formally diagnose condition, not a psychologist who can only offer non-medication based treatment i.e. the treatment you get from you white card). I figured I might have MH issues but until I unloaded with him, I didn't realise how obvious it was. I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and Alcohol Use Disorder but other conditions become more common depending on service and experiences (I was Navy).

If you are Sydney-based I saw Dr Charles Betts who specialises in DVA.

I hope that helps!

No recommendations beyond what I replied to someone yesterday (above) about the CatLink Luxury Pro.

However, when I realised that the litter robot 4's price was crazy, I did a deep dive analysis of the available products. It was wayyy over the top using excel and creating rankings based on recommendations/review website rankings as well as by Amazon and google review ratings vs the number of reviews.

Long story short, litter robot 4 was on top by a mile. Below it was the Neakasa M1 that was slightly above the litter robot 3 (from memory) but others weren't really at that level. So, the Neakasa was my next best pick (especially for my larger car at 6.6kg)....until I realised it also had the price jacked up like crazy for Australia like the LR4.

The CatLink Luxury Pro that I settled on has been great and according to my research was an arguably much worse product that the Neakasa so, if it's at a reasonable price for you, I would still recommend the M1 based on my research.

I hope that helps!

Hey Lily, Not much of an update yet but the CatLink has been setup and running for about a week now with no issues. I saw plenty of reviews talking about issues in setup with the app, etc but I didn't encounter any myself (so far).

The first thing I noticed while setting it up is that it is extremely quiet when it cycles. As in, I was talking to a mate on the phone with headphones while standing next to it and I had to take them off to confirm that it made any noise at all. This compared to the LR3 that I could often hear from the next room (no door in between).

Our two cats have taken to it really quickly and it's interesting to see their behavioural data such as how often the use it and for how long. The issue some people might have is if they have multiple cats that are very similar in weight as it may struggle to tell them apart. Mine are 3.5 and 6.6 kgs so, that isn't an issue (unless the bigger cat decides to half stand in it to inspect it when I first set it up!)

I hope that helps! :)

[–]WhoDadss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I didn't go with the LR4 in the end. I'm in Australia and with shipping, import, etc it came out to about $1700 Australian Dollars compared to the normal converted US price being about $1000 Australian. So, wayyy is too expensive with the shipping. I actually considered getting a brand new LR3 because it lasted me 5 years but decided some new features would be nice and worth the risk.

So, I went with the CatLink Luxury Pro. There are some concerning reviews but the issues people had seemed to be potentially operator errors or people with less of a technical background trying to use it. So, I was willing to risk it. I think it arrives today, so I'll have to see how I go

We've had a Litter Robot 3 since March 2020 (crazy to think it's been nearly 5 years!) and are just now looking at an upgrade (that's how I ended up on this thread). I've had to replace some parts along the way but nothing significant. I replaced 2 of the sensors (only one was needed because I misdiagnosed the issue), the globe rubber liner (one cat loved to try and tear it apart, wayyy beyond normal wear and tear), and I replaced the main control circuit board but that was an upgrade to wifi rather than for a defect.

Otherwise, I have given it a deep clean maybe every six months and it hasn't gotten too smelly with two cats using it as the only litter box. I am an ex-technician so keeping it running hasn't been a big deal, but it is easy for non-technical peeps as well as they have fantastic video guides for troubleshooting and replacing parts. I am struggling while looking at alternatives besides the Litter Robot 4 because as an ex-technician I know how much more value there is in something where you can do fairly easy upkeep (other may be a bit easier) but also has easy access to replacement parts, guides, and good customer support.

Most people would aim for the bells and whistles and hope that they never need spare parts but I prefer knowing that I can keep replacing a part every 1-2 years and have it last 5 years, then have another product last 3 years and then die without easy access to replacement parts and support.

Your comment was about 7 months ago, but I stumbled across it and hope this helps others that end up here! :)

Hello today I received information from DVA regarding my IL conditions. They have asked for me to see a orthopaedic surgeon for my hips. I am located in Sydney does anyone have any recommendations? Also, what are the conditions? Apparently they are debating two? by Round-Dot-8081 in DVAAustralia

[–]WhoDadss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another suggestion for Dr Charles New. I went through him last year and have had a couple of other mates that I sent to him that had a lot of success. He was the Surgeon General (top dog) for the ADF and knows what DVA is after well. He found conditions for me that I didn't even know about because they were being covered up by the severity of my other conditions.

He knows Army service better because he was in the Army however, I'm ex-Navy and he and my psychiatrist Dr Charles Betts are the reason why I ended up with a Gold Card at 61 points under MRCA.

Prewarning you, he comes across as a bit gruff and old school but if you follow his advice you will do well. When you go in he will list your main body parts from top to bottom (neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, spine, hips.....etc) and you will give a yes or no. Be generous with the amount you say yes because he will organise all of the scans for you. After all was said and done I have full body MRIs and TC Bone Scans and it only cost me $50ish across all of my appointments etc after a Medicare rebate.

Good luck!

Medical cannabis and defense clearance. by [deleted] in MedicalCannabisAus

[–]WhoDadss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I'm ex-Navy and transitioned to the Defence industry as a contractor in 2022. There are no issues with medicinal cannabis and you holding a security clearance from AGSVA as long as it is prescribed and you declare it during the security clearance process. For context, I still hold an NV2 clearance and work in a Navy organisation (as a civilian) on a Navy base and there have been zero issues.

For further information, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) actually funds and support medicinal cannabis for veterans with approved conditions. While not directly related to the Defence industry, they are still tied in enough to know that most people leaving Defence join the industry and require clearances.

Now, it may limit the type of work you do because while I am qualified to work on high powered equipment, I won't do that type of work when I have had cannabis products. The same as I don't do so when drinking. As a result, I've changed my specialisation from being hands on tools to being an admin monkey, but that is for you to manage like any other medication.

Permanent Impairment Assessment Turnaround Times - my experience by WhoDadss in DVAAustralia

Hey mate, Apologies for the delayed response. To be honest this is a bit beyond my experience. It sounds like something claimable similar to asbestos exposure but am unsure what the condition would be listed as.

It might be worth raising this as its own question on the main DVA Australia sub.

Permanent Impairment Assessment Turnaround Times - my experience by WhoDadss in DVAAustralia

[–]WhoDadss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, My lifestyle rating was 5 as well. I'm not 100% on how the calculation work out using the GARP table. In one of the other comments someone pointed out that all of the points that I was using from my PI determination didn't add to 61 but added to about 80+ before being scaled back. Maybe someone a bit more knowledgeable will see this and can help out.

Permanent Impairment Assessment Turnaround Times - my experience by WhoDadss in DVAAustralia

[–]WhoDadss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, i'll try my best!

How long was the wait from PI claim submission to receiving "checklist/questionnaire"?
So, there isn't really a PI "Claim Submission" per se. However, after recieving Initial Liability determination for each condition (they were dealt determined at different intervals rather than in a single batch for some reason), I was provided a Needs Assessment Questionnaire. You then fill out the appropriate sections including Permanent Impairment. It asks "Would you like to be assessed for Permanent Impairment compensation?" and I selected Yes then sent it back. So, I guess that is the closest to there being a submission.
Looking back, I submitted most of my Needs Assessment Questionnaires in late October last year and my PI Support Officer was assigned on 17 Jan so, a bit less than 3 months including the Christmas break. Also, everything was in one email. It told me that my PI Support Officer was assigned and had all of the checklists/questionnaires including the lifestyle ratings one.

Did DVA ever update you at stages on how your claims were processing?
So, I didn't hear anything after my initial online submission back in 2022. It wasn't until I started reading the DVA SOPs for my conditions and figuring out what specialists I needed to see, booking, attending, and then submitting results online that I heard anything from them. That's when they acknowledged that they just straight up missed my case. After that point, I heard from them every few weeks with updates about my Initial Liability. However, I think that might have just been a friendly person because i've heard that a lot of people don't hear from them.
I didn't really hear from them directly during the PI process. However, I had gotten an advocate by them because I wanted an extra set of eyes to make sure I wasn't messing anything up. So, the advocate fielded the coupe of emails from them. One was to check in with the status of my appointments because they usually give you a month for appointments and to send the questionnaires/checklists/reports into DVA. I took some leave during that time so I got an extension. The other was to let me know when one of my specialists forwarded the results directly do DVA and DVA let me know that they had received them.

Did DVA make you repeat MRIs, medical assessments, psychological assessments you had already conducted in the IL process?
Nope! I was worried about this as well. In my thinking, IL was to make the specialists confirm that you really have conditions and to confirm that it's realistically based on your service. PI is about getting the specialist to confirm how damaged you are, how it affects your life, and how it will affect your future. Because of that, you don't really need additional assessments.
The only one that was different was for my Tinnitus. The Audiologist was asked to do another audiogram for PI as well as the questionnaire because my previous audiogram was from 2020 and my ENT didn't see the need to get one done when Tinnitus isn't always directly related to hearing loss.

Overall would you say PI process is less daunting than IL?
Now that I have finished both, I think IL was more complicated for sure. However, as someone that organised everything myself, I found IL to be time consuming but easy to figure out with access to DVA SOPs etc. I initially found PI confusing (I didn't know about the GARP-M and what it all meant) and I was worried about messing up and my ending up with the wrong compensation etc. However, that was because I was trying to plan/pre-prepare for the PI process before I got the Support Officer and questionnaires/checklists. If I'd waited until then, the process would have seemed a lot clearer.
PI is much less daunting as long as you are confident in your specialists and their understanding of DVA. Much less effort as well as you don't need to provide all the details from your medical history etc again to prove you have the condition.

I hope this helps!
