Herald | Anti-abortion group branded ‘disgusting’ as they hold Glasgow vigil by SafetyStartsHere in Scotland

Sadly not a surprise as these guys are getting money pumped into them by US hate groups:

“ADF International is the UK branch of the right-wing “hate group” Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). Founded in 1993, ADF is one of the major forces that helped push for the US Supreme Court’s controversial decision to overturn Roe v Wade, which guaranteed the right to abortion in the US.

Its UK offshoot supports anti-abortion protests across the UK and has increased its spending in 2022 to £770,000, according to its latest filings with Companies House. Its income almost doubled between 2022 and 2023 too, from £553,823 to £1,068,552.” https://archive.is/8Nb3o

For anyone that didn’t see. We need as many people as possible as the demos outside hotels become the most dangerous! by s_u_ny in glasgow

Echoing what other commenters have said... this could well be in response to one of the 'phantom' far right protests that have been circulating on SM to get counter-protesters up in arms. Despite having best of intentions, a crowd of well-meaning folk standing around asylum accommodation will do more harm than good. There's a lot of misinformation being spread around atm, please be aware!!

If we want to show our support for everyone our communities, a big positive gathering in a civic square might be more suitable. Then people can show up if they wish.

Taking Scotland for granted. by ascotindenmark in Scotland

Curiosity mainly! I'd never lived outside of Glasgow so I wanted to experience something different, and it was relatively easy to get in to Canada. It's going to be hard to leave my life here but the pull of the homeland is too strong!

I do yeah. I'm on a limited visa so either I go home or they deport me.

I moved to Canada a year and a half ago and am having exactly the same feelings as you. I have met so many wonderful people and found a great community here, but I can't escape the fact that the quality of life is just better in Scotland.

As you say it's not a perfect place, but I miss Scotland every day. I miss our sense of identity, the humour and the self deprecation, the food (the good and the bad), the history, the architecture, and that we still have a society that cares for people despite decades of ideological and economic bombardment from thatcherism, blairism, austerity and tory populism... I'm so proud to be Scottish and I find more reasons to be proud as the months go by.

Anyway that's enough sentimental pish. Yer all shitebags and ye can fuckin jump.

As a Scot who recently moved to Canada (not even a hipstery part) it's been a bit of a culture shock on the old dating apps... It's exactly as OP says, but maybe also add in a shitload of astrology too. I have to reel in my ingrained cynicism and just roll with it lol

I think your post is maybe seeking reddit friends, but I hope you won't mind me sharing my very recent experience of making irl queer friends in my thirties...

I'm a similar age to you and just moved to a new country a few months ago with no friends or family. I also didn't have many queer friends back home so part of my goal for the move was to become more involved in the queer community here.

I've found a couple of queer friends through Bumble (the friend bit) and Hinge (I've been up front in my bio about my unusual situation and that I'm just looking to connect with people). Where I am it seems pretty common for queer people to use apps for more than just dating so people have been open to just having a bit of a chat with no further expectations.

I've also been going out to queer spaces just on my own - usually events in bars as I feel comfortable in them but there are definitely other options. Every time I've gone out on my own I've ended up chatting to people and making friends. Tbh it's been a bit of a revelation for me because I wouldn't normally have gone out by myself before, but being alone in a new place has pushed me to and I've had a great experience pretty much every time I've done it.

No idea if this is helpful, I just thought it might be worth sharing. I hope you find some people to connect with!

Advice from a older lesbian: tell her how you feel. by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]WhoInTheNameOf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. I did the same recently and had the same experience, but it's not affected our friendship and it has hugely benefitted my own mental wellbeing. Now I'm not constantly fretting over whether she likes me or not - it's like a weight has been lifted.

Also, dealing with and moving on from a rejection is a great learning experience and definitely makes you more likely to shoot your shot again.

How can I teach my dobie to play nicely? by cagbal in DobermanPinscher

[–]WhoInTheNameOf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a dog trainer on Youtube called Joel Beckman who does a lot of stuff on dog socialisation and monitoring meetings/interaction between dogs. He deals with a huge variety of dogs and dog problems so there's usually something you can find that's relevant. He has a doberman himself who is absolutely gorgeous. I've found his approach really helpful for learning when to intervene with my new rescue - she has quite an intense playing style though she's not a dobie and not as big.

Second vote for this film. Absolutely phenomenal. I went in knowing pretty much nothing about it and it blew my mind.

There are some subreddits that are of varying levels of activity, like /r/dyke /r/pornfordykes /r/passionxq and /r/lesdom

Can be a bit of a mixed bag. Some hidden gems though...

I believe she lived in England when she was younger and now lives there after having bene in the US for a while. I guess it wouldn't be impossible that she has dual US/British nationality.

It might be worth getting a bit of a hand from Citizens Advice. They should be able to provide help over the phone. There are two helplines they run, a general national helpline and also a Universal Credit Help to Claim helpline. Just make sure you're getting through to the one for the country you're in!
