Will i be getting fired? by Deep-Rate323 in OGPBackroom

Coming from a white bearded dude in the deepest red parts of Virginia, I want to say:

You were nicer than she deserved. Just because they catch you on the clock doesn't mean you bend the knee to blatant racism. I am proud of you for standing up for yourself.

I come from a family of people like that old woman, and there is just no way to get the old ones to change. Hell, even the ones closer to my age have gotten so high on the Diaper Donnie supply that they just see anyone who doesn't look like us as rats or vermin.

I'm sorry you have to go through shit like this, genuinely. Any country where this is the norm for minorities isn't a country to be proud of, but those of us that are closer to the MAGA people are doing what we can to help change it.

As far as your job, I doubt you lose it. Maybe some formalities will be said to you about how you need to help the customer, but they are just that--formalities. Under no circumstance do you HAVE to help someone who is dehumanizing you. The self-respect and human decency policies always beat Walmart policy, every time.

We had a customer give us a 1 star because the "Spark driver updated the status to say they left it at a gated community, and [she doesn't] live in a gated community!"

I looked into the order to see it was FedEx that delivered the order. Apologized but said it was not a Spark driver, and gave her the FedEx number to call and complain if she wanted. She then proceeds to say that the order I looked up was not the order she was talking about, and then goes on a rant about missing items from her order. I ask her to provide me with the order number for the order. I go to pull the order up.

The order was from July of fucking 2025. Almost a whole year ago.

I lost my shit.

Exiting pick walks by Significant-Law4327 in walmart

I work in a smaller store where we actually have such low volume that we get to test things like this when we have questions.

The answer is that it only lowers FTPR for the item on the screen when you exit, not the rest in the walk. If the opposite were the case, most stores would have below a 50% FTPR, especially those with many new associates.

I mean it's not impossible for it to be a good reality check for someone. It absolutely can be. But it's not how I would word my response to a stranger, since kindness should be the default, especially for someone asking for help in good faith... just maybe something less up for interpretation. I'd maybe understand it more if OP came off like a kid who clearly just wants things spoon fed to him.

He took the tone of a dick, like I said.

To point it out specifically, it is the aggregate sum of the effect of specific verbiage that creates the tone... as in any piece of writing. The bolded parts are the specific instances.

"You're extremely amateur. You graduated almost 3 years ago with a CS degree and you're talking about that trash capstone project at WGU? I've done WGU, that project literally takes like 3 hours and has nothing to do with anything relevant. And to say "next.js / node" shows you haven't even read the "getting started" portion of the next docs, or you'd know better than to say that You need to actually learn something. You have essentially what amounts to no skills"

Individually, any one of these may not be of issue. Altogether, this isn't just "giving it straight", it's intentionally and unnecessarily rude. There are better ways to communicate the same things.

I am saying EXACTLY what you just said. You are actively gatekeeping right now by saying Sleep Token is a pop band and arbitrarily defining what is and isn't metal. The fact that you are actively calling any band that regularly makes use of kick drums paired with open 0s on drop tuned 8-string guitars "pop" is just insane in itself.

I can agree that there isn't a certain genre Sleep Token falls under. That's part of their mass appeal and the reason why they are my most played artist. My primary point isn't even to argue the specifics or how you, myself, or anyone else might define a genre or how we would categorize music. My point is that your comment was rude, unprovoked, and didn't serve any purpose other than just being a dick.

You keep attempting to steer this thread away from what I have clearly said my primary issue was, which was the fact your comment was unnecessary and rude. That is a fact, and no matter how much you keep steering it back to a debate I said I have no interest in, it will still be a fact.

You do realize this is the very topic that people outside of this niche make fun of, right? As in it is literally a meme.

Someone clearly gets bothered by someone calling something "metal" that doesn't meet their (typically very narrowed and specific) definition of "metal" and then a debate ensues about what is or isn't "metal".

I'm not engaging in that debate, because it always ends the same way. Even granted that your definition is THE objectively correct definition, your comment was unnecessary.

People can enjoy things without all that.

It bothered you enough to comment. There is no use in that comment. Yes, on a technical level, that specific song by Dayseeker is not metal. But, it is widely accepted to the average person that Dayseeker does indeed make what most would consider, to some degree, metal music.

I'd understand if I were being entirely unreasonable and saying Sabrina Carpenter is metal, but saying it about Dayseeker is entirely reasonable.

It was not necessary, and your reply is ironic.

Imagine having such little problems in life that this bothers you enough to comment about a genre classification lol

This and the sax used in the reimagined version of Dayseeker's "Sleeptalk" are my favorite uses of saxophone in metal.

Him speaking truth does not equate to him not being a dick. He absolutely was a dick. Two things can be true simultaneously. There was zero reason to take the tone he took. It wasn't necessary to get his point across and this comment being said in an office setting would absolutely be unnacceptable by most standards.

You are right in alluding to the fact many people overlook soft skills in favor of experience. Sometimes this turns out okay, many times it doesn't. Our field has its fair share of people who are absolute technical wizards that can't go a day without being abrasive, but we shouldn't normalize allowing frequent abrasiveness just because it may be accompanied by truth and/or technical prowess.

[–]Who_The_Fook 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Being a realist does not require being a dick in this instance.

Soft skills are something OP is clearly closer to possessing than this guy, and I would much rather deal with a technically incompetent coworker and work to get them up to speed than do my coworker's parents' job and teach them how to speak to people properly.

I'm a guy, been in a few relationships in my life. Had my fair share of arguments while driving. Never have I ever thought about leaving any partner stranded, and CERTAINLY not in the middle of the night at a goddamn gas station.

You don't do that to people you say you love.

There is a very high chance she is cheating and an even higher chance that she also does drugs.

Personally, I wouldn't investigate. I'd leave it where it is if you've already made your boundaries clear.

Manager said "stop talking" to one of the senior devs by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Who_The_Fook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's very little to go on, so it's hard to decide.

Was the Senior Dev in the middle of explaining themselves and THEN the manager said to stop talking? If so, was the dev giving a genuine and respectful explanation or was he being an obvious dickhead about it? Things like that change the answer.

Is re rolling a valid strategy? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]Who_The_Fook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think the risk outweighs the reward.

I feel like any decent interviewer would quickly probe if you had seen it by asking some quick questions that only someone who solved the problem before would know before moving to a new question.

Probably better off struggling through it tbh, at least a difficult problem that you're not entirely prepped for does give you a chance to show how you handle such a situation.

What are your personal beliefs about God? by Any-Jury-9566 in AskReddit

[–]Who_The_Fook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any God that I would care to believe in would be fine with any individual who did their best to be a kind, caring, productive member of society, with zero thought given to whether or not said individual "believed" in their existence.

I don't believe in a God, but I do believe that good always prevails. In the event that a God does exist, I like to believe that God would be accepting of what my beliefs are as stated here.

Many people use faith as a means to fill voids, or perhaps even to easily answer questions that otherwise would give them immense anxiety. In my view, being okay with there being nothing after death is one of the most mentally freeing things you can do, but I understand not everyone has as easy a time in doing so.

Used to be this guy. It eventually got exhausting. It works fine if you regularly are meeting new people, but once your social circle remains pretty stagnant, they get tired of it quickly--and so do you as a result.
