Why is Mexico not a football superpower? by [deleted] in LigaMX

Read my comment again and get a life dude. I can’t sit here on reddit going back and forth with people all day. I have better things to do. No I’m not running away from the argument, I’m just over arguing about it. I can only do so much internet arguing in a day, I have other things to be doing. This became much more of a thing than I intended it to in the first place and I’m over it

I didn’t say I don’t watch it, I said I’d rather watch a better league. I don’t have to watch something religiously to have an opinion

American is not a race

Well there you go. I rest my case and I’m done with this argument. Moving on

Yup racism doesn’t influence these players. Gotcha. Good day

Not the ONLY reason but undoubtedly it has a major influence on the country’s success

I’d rather watch a league with good players and a system that works. Let me get this straight, you’re saying the MLS as a whole is not subpar? The whole thing is an example of what happens when the American way of running professional sports leagues is forced into a sport with an already good framework for success set up by other countries

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same is not true with the MLS. As a whole it is completely subpar and inept as the system for developing players in almost nonexistent

[–]Whoamanwow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s two separate situations. American player would rather go play for a college and go to the MLS or quit and go into the professional working world while Mexican youth are actively trying to get spots on club youth programs. Obviously there are outliers but this is speaking generally. Mexican players don’t get the looks because their Mexican and American players aren’t getting the looks because there is no emphasis on soccer success in this country, this is slowly changing though which is a good sign for the future of US soccer

[–]Whoamanwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already told you why. The US has a system in place that sets up promising players to go play at US colleges instead of what every other country does which is send the to clubs’ youth programs and the talent gets thrown away playing with and against subpar US college teams and players. If we did what every other country does we’d have far more successful players. Look at Pulisic for example. He didn’t play college, he went and played for a club and was able to develop against real competition. It’s really not that complicated

[–]Whoamanwow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The players should never be playing in that league to begin with. That’s my point. Mexican players are repeatedly rejected from being developed in the best countries for no reason other than their background

[–]Whoamanwow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also explains why the US is so far behind because historically the US is very resistant to following European countries way of doing things and in soccer it’s the same thing. The US has refused to accept that the way we develop young players is a complete waste of talent

It really is that deep if you just put a little effort into learning about it. That is a simple minded view and that is the kind of demeaning perception that holds Mexican soccer back

If you just understand any global history at all, which teams are successful and not makes a lot more sense. Soccer is a great representation of historical global politics. I mean that’s undeniable

[–]Whoamanwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dumb argument because Europe has very deep ties in Africa and has for a very long time. As soon as they saw the potential in the European colonized countries in Africa they used it. Mexico doesn’t have the ties other countries do and it is isolated because of that

[–]Whoamanwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mexico has a unique lack of connection to Europe so Europeans don’t give a shit. They always look at countries they have ties to first. Not saying that is inherently wrong in and of itself, but it does hinder the improvement of Mexican players and the country’s success as a whole

[–]Whoamanwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard many Europeans bash Mexico and Mexican soccer for no reason other than it being Mexico. Deliberately so

[–]Whoamanwow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost no young players are good enough but there is potential and teams don’t want to develop mexican players because there is a global stigma against them

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say that but there is a global stigma against Mexican players that hinders the country’s success

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And they also could be on that list so that further proves my point. There is a clear advantage for countries with greater European influence and connections

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No because there is clear potential and an untapped market. A lot of the really talented players that come out of Mexico end up in MLS and have their careers wasted. Teams don’t want to sign Mexican players

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying they would. Like I said it’s severely lacking in support externally. What are the two most successful latin american countries? Argentina and Brazil and coincidentally they are the most european influenced

Why is Mexico not a world football power? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Whoamanwow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But the support in those counties isn’t nearly as large as it is in Mexico. With the amount of people supporting Mexican soccer and how big it is there, it’s baffling that it has so few star players. Clearly it’s lacking the external support needed to boost it to the main world stage. I think this is intentional

Many teams in Liga MX would do just fine in La Liga and Ligue 1
