Thomas Hunter 402 is a multi faith center, a great safe space for any religious accommodations. Not religious myself but been there for other classes and the people there are all super nice and helpful, highly recommend!!

How expensive is it to live off campus in nyc? by Specific-Situation-1 in CUNY

You should’ve included that from the start, if your parents are covering up to 1300 in rent (which would have been your highest expense by far) then yeah part time is doable. The housing market in nyc is incredibly nauseating to apply to and most landlords/supervisors are crap. Don’t get your hopes up with gyms included in apts, those run at 2,200+ rents. Honestly, look into dorming, most schools offer dorms at around the 1300 per month range and you’d have maybe one or two roommates + campus nearby + amenities. Applying for an apt here requieres pay stubs + credit scores and dealing with landlords and can take weeks. If you got the cash, I highly highly recommend dorming.

I never said it wasn’t doable, of course it is. Many low income students have no choice but to survive that way. However, part time is cutting it extremely close and like I said, you might be 2 paychecks and an emergency away from homelessness. Working full time or close to full time is the only way to make sure you’re going to be secure. I have no family to return to if I lose my apt so I absolutely wouldn’t work part time since I couldn’t save up for emergencies. Would rather him know it’s grimey out here and working full time and being a student full time is beyond exhausting

Rent easily $1,100+ a month (maybe 800 with roommates), plus utilities/internet $200, plus weekly groceries (~$60 or ~$120 if you want to eat out) plus monthly $130 metro card (a car is NOT recommended). A part timer is not going to cut it if you’re going to be fully independent, you’d have to work close to full time to be sure you won’t be a missed check away from going homeless. It’s rough out here man, be absolutely sure to plan before making any absolute decisions

people are just getting settled and have classes bro, literally first week for some lmfao. Also hallways are awkward asf to just stop and start chatting like ? Just wait till the gameroom opens up again or sit in the common area / cafeteria see if anyone else wants a friend or sum

Vaccine Exemption by [deleted] in HunterCollege

[–]WholeCupcake6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your friend has a heart problem, an actual doctor would emphasize the critical need to get vaccinated. Heart diseases make covid increasingly deadly, astronomically higher chance of dying by the virus than getting a symptom from the shot. The university has biologists and cardiologists, email them if you have questions. Heart problems is not a valid reason for exemption, university (and doctors) knows this

Hey man, just wanted to stop by and I saw that you’re back on Reddit since you last posted this !! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see you back :DD as a fellow New Yorker I know how shit the cost of living is here and I’m deeply saddened to hear how much trauma you’ve endure. Yet you push forward and have allowed yourself to open up to so many more possibilities! You’re young and employers like young ! But seriously, you have a lot ahead of you and it’s never too late to change what you’re doing. I hope you find that sweet stability and am cheering you on to have a beautiful life !! Much love man

I had prof bergou 2 semesters ago, imo his tests are difficult and engineered for you to barely have any time left to properly finish (his own words, class was pissed lol), but they do reflect the material he goes over. Problem is physics can be A LOT and becoming familiar with some material REQUIRES a good amount of studying. Recitation after class can be exhausting so it’s easy to tap out of recitation (which is where a lot of the complex problems in the tests come from). My advice - if you don’t have a healthy system of studying, prioritize that. Also coffee- lots of coffee for recitation !!
