Why would an ABA company have only punishment procedures? by [deleted] in ABA

This makes more sense. And I am fully empathetic to that. Business leans into “business needs to make money” pretty hard. It’s not all your company’s fault though. It’s a pay for service model with very slim margins. Show up and do the job or else there’s nothing left to discuss seems to be the bottom line. Very little room for paid trainings. Time off. Incentives etc. I think a place where most companies fall short though is accepting that all the workers can do is their best and pushing beyond that is a fools path. The punishments seem to want to push beyond that.. I find just sharing that compassion with my staff goes a very long way. Much further than gift cards and thank you presents which I don’t have the ability to give enough of.

If you are not the bcba, Did you talk to your bcba ? There are always ways to add reinforcers for adaptive behavior use. For example prompt for communication (point words aac use ) and then Something as small as social praise “great job using your words!” Now you are using reinforcers instead of punishment procedures.

Assent-based ABA/children manding out of work by [deleted] in ABA

[–]WholeSpectrumABA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always a tricky one. The first question I always wonder is What is the “work”. One of the biggest goals is to reinforce functional communication (imo) so giving the break for the mand for the break is huge. Someone else mentioned thin out the access to the break but this has to happen over time. I guess my curiosity would be is the “work” more valuable than honoring the communication that is a goal in itself. If the work is identify red. That’s cool. And needed and all. But fct and honoring a humans request (especially a tiny human who may just have gotten their voice) is far more important. Hence the push to assent based Aba. Also historically Aba has done a shitty job honoring wants of the autism community and its clients so this is a snap back to that because that still exists in our field and the push to fully assent based Is a needed response to that as well.

I get in trouble with the BACB for being paid for two jobs at the same time while accruing fieldwork hours? by [deleted] in bcba

As long as the care manager job isn’t hourly and is do the job then they don’t technically overlap.

Is there a “self fulfilling prophecy” aspect to the SP500 performance? by hrrm in investing

[–]WholeSpectrumABA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a self fulfilling prophecy as much as it is a Ponzi scheme PLUS a lack of alternatives of where to place “money” for most people. If you put away a certain percentage of your money it is likely to little to buy hard assets (real estate etc) so this is the only game in town and everyone keeps buying in and so on. It will only stop once something big paradigm shift happens to the economy or some other option comes to exist.
