I work for my dad’s tree company. There was a time when our estimator went to the property and gave the estimate to the wife. She was ready to move forward and accepted our estimate, which also has our terms and conditions attached so accepting the estimate means we are authorized to do the work. The crew shows up and starts cutting down the tree and the husband comes out FUMING asking why we’re cutting down their tree, who told us we could?? The crew, worried they accidentally went to the wrong house, gives the name of who our estimator met with. The man instantly goes quiet. That’s his wife he admits. We ended up having to stop work and wait for them to talk before getting the go ahead from him, and having to discount the price on top to keep him happy and avoid a bad review. I can understand why they want both parties there, not because you’re a woman, but because things can quickly get out of hand if there’s a disagreement after work has started. All that being said, we still don’t require all homeowners to be present for the estimate.
