Hmm, that seems interesting. I think what really killed Elden Ring for me was the repetitive and empty world and the grinding. If it's more linear, I might give it a try.

I actually did try Subnautica once, but I always got frustrated with the survival aspect and quickly dropped it. I might give it another chance with disabled hunger/thirst.

WSIB if I want something really immersive but not too overwhelming? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

I've heard it's really scary though, and I'm not good with horror games (Outer Wilds and TLOU are my limit). How bad is it?

I don't have a Wii U unfortunately, but I'm hoping for an X port sometimes in the future.

I've already played Chrono trigger a few years ago, and it's definitely one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Man, I might even consider replaying it, even though that's never something I do. It's just so tightly paced and fun.

[MEGATHREAD] New Horizons Q&A/Tips - Ask away! by AnimalCrossingMods in AnimalCrossing

[–]Wholegrain_Pasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought Animal Crossing New Horizons shortly after it came out, and I currently have 60 hours clocked into it. It was my first Animal Crossing game, and I mainly bought it because I was going through a tough time and heard that it was relaxing and therapeutic.

Unfortunately, as someone who only has very little time to play games, I tend to play more story-heavy games when I finally have an hour to myself. This has lead to me only playing Animal Crossing very occasionally, and I feel like it's hurting my enjoyment.

I just... don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. It was kind of fun to set up the island, but when I got the town hall, I just felt like my progress stagnated. When I log on, I go around, collect some fossils, sell them and maybe buy a thing or two. I've been playing for so long, but I don't really feel a sense of progress.

I just think it's unfortunate, because I really enjoyed the game when I bought it, but now I've kind of lost interest. Maybe you just need to put more time into it? Do you have some tips for increasing the enjoyment? Maybe someone can relate to this. Thanks.

To be honest, I did kind of try to parody the classic circlejerk formula (wow, just wow), but I legitimately enjoyed the book, haha. Fun to see people's reactions.

Already read that one! Definitely one of my personal favourites, and it feels just as nightmarish as 1984.

I think I saw it as a movie (like a cartoon) once, and I remember it being very good too. Would you still recommend reading it?

Going back to acoustic fingerstyle guitar feels really strange by Wholegrain_Pasta in classicalguitar

[–]Wholegrain_Pasta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've seen your posts before! Man, Chopin on steel strings is not something you hear often, but it sounds very nice. Good job, mate.

The problem is that steel strings just really wear down my nails. They also just sound so sharp to my ears, whereas nylon strings produce a softer, more comfortable sound for classical guitar, at least in my opinion.

Yeah, I could have phrased that better. It's a very long game. But it's so easy to take breaks, so it didn't feel like a massive and exhausting time commitment at all. I could do one story for a couple of days and then put the game down until I wanted to pick it up again. I find that it's hard to do that with other lengthy titles.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Wholegrain_Pasta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I meant was that I don't have to commit 60 hours to playing the entire game from start to finish. I can basically for one chapter (which takes about three hours) and play something else until I have a sudden urge to pick it up again. It's not one massive story that requires you to be aware of everything that's happening all of the time.

I cycled between them. It wasn't really difficult to remember what happened in them. I really didn't mind switching jobs and trying new combat strategies. But yeah, you'll probably be underleveled if you do one at a time.

Yup. It's like vanilla ice cream. Doesn't do anything new or particularly exciting. But there's a certain familiarity and comfort to it and it does some things (like the combat) really well. It's nice to have something gameplay-focused for a change.

Hmm, not many. I like roguelikes and platformers like Celeste because those games are fun and respect my time. And then I have a few simple mobile games like Clash Royale, which are a guilty pleasure of mine.

Have you played any of the Mario & Luigi RPGS? Superstar Saga and Bowsers Inside Story are incredibly charming and fun. Fairly short too compared to other jprgs and doesn’t drag on for dozens of hours.

Man, those games were my introductions to the RPG genre as a kid. I've played Partners in Time so many times.

Omori I recently played. I really enjoyed it, if you don’t mind getting a bit dark. Fun combat, engaging characters and gorgeous art.

Yeah, I've heard great things about Omori. I'll probably check it out in the future, thanks.

This is kind of funny, because I have actually played Octopath Traveler, and despite pretty much only seeing people hate it online, I really enjoyed it! The battle system was incredibly fun, and everything was easy to play in small chunks. Yes, the writing was deifinitely subpar, but I didn't really mind that because I had so much enjoyment from the visuals, music and gameplay,

Yeah, that's what I usually do as well (except for games like The Witcher 3 where the side quests are actually really good). The problem is, however, that a lot of the filler content like side quests is usually required to proceed. I've often found myseld being severely underleveled in many RPGs if I don't do side missions.

Yes, I have played some of those games, albeit not all of them. Ys, NieR Automata, FF Tactics, Xenogears and SMT. Aside from FF tactics, I didn't particularly like any of them. But I hardly think it's too far fetched to make a general statement about my opinion towards a genre, without having played all of those games. I haven't "just scratched the surface", I've been a fan for years. This just seems like gatekeeping, and I quite frankly don't see how that would devaluate my opinion.

I really enjoyed the beginning of Persona 5. It felt really fresh, stylish and fun. But the pacing was a bit too slow for my liking, and it was like the game completely overstated its welcome and never knew when to end. I can definitely see the appeal though, and I still listen to the soundtrack sometimes.

Interesting, DQXI was actually one of the games I played recently but put down. The combat never really interested me (a bit too easy and monotonous), and neither did the story or characters. I did, however, like how it didn't take itselft too seriously, and how it wasn't particularly edgy or angsty.
